Keanu Reeves Will Return For ‘John Wick: Chapter 5’

Oh, you think John Wick is dead? Yeah, he’s thinking he’s back again anyway.

This week at CinemaCon, Lionsgate has confirmed the production of another John Wick film. Unlike a prequel scenario where Wick appears before his supposed death in John Wick: Chapter 4, or a spinoff focusing on Donnie Yen’s character Caine – which is also in development with Yen himself set to direct it – this upcoming movie will continue the story of the main character, John Wick.

This isn’t just any movie; it’s the fifth installment of the “John Wick” series, featuring Keanu Reeves and once again helmed by series veteran director, Chad Stahelski.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Adam Fogelson, chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, stated at CinemaCon that “Keanu, Chad, [producers] Basil [Iwanyk] and Erica [Lee] would only come back if they had a truly remarkable and innovative idea for these characters and this world.

“We can’t wait for audiences to see where the journey takes us next,” he added.

If Stahlenski and Reeves aren’t planning to delve deeply into the supernatural, it seems likely that they might reverse Wick’s death in the final showdown of John Wick: Chapter 4. However, the funeral scene we saw doesn’t necessarily mean John’s body was on display. Stahlenski didn’t provide a clear view of his deceased state.

It seems likely that in Chapter 5 we’ll discover how John Wick managed to recover from his severe wounds and stage his own death to bring an end to the relentless violence that began with the killing of his cherished puppy back in 2014’s John Wick. Since then, a succession of reckless gangsters have taken turns trying to kill him, and it has continued for four films.

You see, the never-ending loop of violence in the John Wick series may have taken a toll on John himself, but it’s been quite profitable for Lionsgate, raking in over a billion dollars globally. So, rest assured, this cycle of action and violence isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
