Keith Allen REVEALS Near EastEnders Role With Danny Dyer

Keith Allen is set to appear in EastEnders in a temporary role, contributing to Phil Mitchell’s mental health narrative. Remarkably, he was nearly featured on the show years ago.

Tonight, we have a unique episode lined up that delves into Phil’s experiences at the mental health facility. Here, he encounters Allen, who becomes his friend, as Phil grapples with a challenging period in his life and finds it hard to share his feelings during therapy sessions.

Over a span of four weeks, the storyline progresses and focuses on Phil’s journey, starting with him initiating therapy. This journey delves into Phil confronting his internal turmoil, seeking clarity about factors that might have led to his diagnosis of depression and manifestations of psychosis.

Allen expressed great joy at being invited to star as a guest on the soap, and during an interview on The One Show, he shared that this role was something he’d always wanted to do – it was even on his “wish list.” Interestingly, he had previously been asked to appear on EastEnders, but this current opportunity was particularly special for him.

He shared with Alex Jones and Clara Amfo that they had wanted him to play Danny Dyer’s father, and he was frequently contacted by Danny asking, “Keith, please, please come and be my dad. Please, please come,” but he declined because he couldn’t agree to a contract.

2014 saw the introduction of Mick Carter’s father, Buster Briggs, on screen, portrayed by Karl Howman. He continued in this role for a span of two years until his character’s exit in 2016.

Allen added: “Performing in an episode was always a dream, something I’ve longed to tick off my list. Doing just one is satisfying, as it allows me to say I’ve been on EastEnders. However, the significance or gravity of this particular episode is quite substantial.

It’s a privilege to express honesty, to be given the opportunity to contribute to it, and I find it truly remarkable that such a topic is being explored.

More developments are on the horizon for Phil’s character, as a unique, five-minute segment will be broadcast during Comic Relief to increase understanding.

In this particular episode, Phil befriends Andy (Jake Rory), a patient, who opens up about his experiences at a shelter for homeless youth. It turns out that Phil and Andy discover they share many hidden similarities.

Chris Clenshaw, EastEnders’ executive producer, expressed his excitement about the storyline, stating, “We’re delighted to collaborate with Comic Relief and Brandon Centre as we delve deeper into the intricate aspects of Phil’s mental health struggle. As they both undergo treatment, Phil and Andy discover unexpected similarities between them.
