It’s the end of an era for Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos.
The co-hosts of the show “Live With Kelly and Mark” have decided to move from their studio on New York City’s Upper West Side, where they’ve been taping for 37 years with hosts such as Regis Philbin and Kathie Lee Gifford, to a new studio located within Disney’s headquarters in lower Manhattan.
The shift towards Disney centralizing its productions is taking one more stride, as studios like “The View“, “The Tamron Hall Show“, and eventually “Good Morning America” are moving to the Hudson Square location. This studio change, however, carries a sentimental impact for Mark and Kelly, as their children, Michael (age 27), Lola (age 23), and Joaquin (age 22), have established their lives in the same place.
In a heartfelt chat with People on April 1st, I proudly shared that our children have deep roots in this very place. They frequently returned to be close to mom, and it was not uncommon for them to be backstage, even as tiny infants.
Speaking of Kelly, she’s been a co-host on the show since 2001, sharing the stage with Regis, Michael Strahan, and Ryan Seacrest. Just like them, she cherishes memories made with her children at this second home they all share.
She mentioned that they accompanied her to work each day, until they started attending school. In essence, she was implying that they spent a significant part of their childhood within this very building and its surrounding walls.
Besides several of their closest companions being colleagues from the studio, Mark and Kelly, who have been jointly hosting since 2023, treasure the studio for a special reason: It was the place where they got married.
Prior to their marriage in 1996, these ex-“All My Children” co-stars had parted ways momentarily, but found themselves back together due to a compulsory work engagement just a few days afterwards.
Mark clarified, “We found ourselves here, neither of us wanted to, but circumstances led us to stand on this very stage.
He stated, “Upon laying eyes on her, it felt as if I had made the biggest mistake of my life by wanting to be with her for eternity. The very next day, I proposed and we immediately left for Las Vegas to get married.
In agreement with her spouse, Kelly expressed, “That’s fascinating! We owe much to this location. It will certainly be challenging to find something similar.
To delve deeper into the candid (and intriguing) insights from Kelly and Mark, much of which they openly discussed in their treasured workspace, continue on…
Six years ago, when my husband Mark Consuelos graced the set of Live! With Kelly, our beloved host used the occasion to voice a little grievance – or so it seemed! “You know,” she said, “when we have special moments at home, he turns into a grump afterwards. I find that quite peculiar!”
Now, now, my dear Kelly, I assure you it was all in jest. Yet, when I noticed this playful banter had made headlines, I felt compelled to clarify the situation. “Let me make one thing clear,” I said on-air a few days later, “no one can be rude after something if they’re asleep!”
And Kelly, ever the understanding wife, quickly chimed in, “Maybe that’s what I meant. I didn’t really mean grumpy. I was referring to being completely uninterested… or sound asleep.
It’s no wonder that Michael Consuelos, Lola Consuelos, and Joaquin Consuelos must be cautious whenever they browse through social media. For instance, recall when Mark once announced he would manage his Instagram feed for the show Riverdale during a 2019 episode, leading to Kelly commenting, “Oh, Daddy, I love it when you take over.”
This is just one example of why the morning show personality feels secure that her children have made every effort to remove any trace of them on social media.
“I’m convinced they’ve blocked any platform containing our names,” Kelly said in an interview with TopMob News in April 2023. “Just as they block us from their own social media accounts, they also block us in every possible way.
Is that a bulge in Bruce Bozzi’s Chips costume or just a shadow, Kelly posted back in 2020? Her husband had an interesting observation about the tightness of his trousers. He commented, “I think it might be a shadow causing that bulging effect.” To which Kelly humorously replied, “Ummm, baby are you seeing shadows?”
Later on TopMob’s Daily Pop, Kelly didn’t shy away from acknowledging the topic. When host Justin Sylvester pointed out that was one reason they’d been married for so long, she responded, “It’s not the only reason we’ve stayed together. But I would say it’s definitely among the top three.
Instead of grumbling, the constant flurry of Halloween photos made Kelly develop a practice of thoroughly examining her body before posting any personal family moments for sharing.
When Justin Sylvester observed on Instagram that Kelly had been exceptionally thoughtful with the pictures she posted from a November 2020 tropical vacation, the morning host playfully responded, “You have no idea how meticulous I’ve been. And how restrictive it can be (I’m not complaining).
In a 2021 episode of Live!, Kelly put it simply: The key to their long-lasting marriage, spanning nearly 30 years with three children? “Love and intimacy.
During the conversation, the unique method the couple uses to handle stress surfaced when Mark temporarily took over as a co-host, alongside Kelly, while discussing the television series titled “Scenes From a Marriage.
Kelly remarked about the conflicts they observed, stating, “I couldn’t imagine such turmoil in the Mark Consuelos household because he would swiftly address any issues that arose.” She further explained, “He would say something like, ‘You seem upset? Let me help. You’re not happy with something? I can fix it. You feel overwhelmed at work? I’ve got your back. I know what you need.'”
She continued, “Because for Mark, everything is resolved with—” before Mark chimed in, “Love.” Kelly added, “Love and intimacy.” Mark clarified, “Not everything. Not everything!” But she emphasized, “Almost everything, yes.
Mark responded to Kelly’s post featuring a vibrant rainbow sequin sweatshirt with some playful words. Referencing the message “More Glitter, Less Twitter” on her garment, he humorously inquired, “Sweetheart, is that a G or a C…on second thought, I guess it’s better left for someone else to answer.
Reminiscing about her youngest son Joaquin’s 18th birthday, it seems that memories of Kelly Ripa’s own birthday attire from that time surfaced. When Mark Consuelos posted an Instagram tribute in February 2021 saying “Our little guy is all grown up,” Kelly playfully replied, “Let me tell you, creating him was a blast.” It appears that the conception of their son was quite an international adventure, as Mark had mentioned it occurred during a trip to Montreal.
During a September 2022 episode of “Watch What Happens Live,” Andy Cohen asked his friend a question about a game called “Have You Ever Had Sex Here?” The answer was affirmative for several locations, including public bathrooms, during their “All My Children” days on set, and while they were on a boat. However, there are a few places where they haven’t (yet) engaged in intimate activities, such as the back seat of a car en route to an event, a department store dressing room, or the set of her daytime talk show. Despite this, based on their public displays of affection on Instagram, it seems difficult to believe there are many places they haven’t been intimate.
Kelly’s preferred pose is the one that showcases her best angle. During the peak of the pandemic, with her show in NYC and him filming Riverdale in Vancouver, they developed some amusingly extravagant intimate routines as she described on an episode of her Let’s Talk Off Camer podcast in March 2023.
She also got quite inventive. “I grew so concerned about my looks over video calls,” she mentioned, “that I began propping up the computer on a ladder, so that I could look upward at Mark and he wouldn’t have to witness the true effects of gravity.
It seems that Kelly prefers to keep her professional and personal life separate, a stance she emphasized when discussing the romantic relationship between Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes that led to their departure from ABC’s GMA3. Jokingly, Kelly mentioned that she and her long-time husband Mark were adhering to network rules now that he joined her at the Live desk.
In April on Watch What Happens Live, Kelly revealed that she and her husband of 28 years had taken a pledge of abstinence while working together due to ABC’s disapproval of romantic involvement between co-workers. She humorously added, “Because I know how ABC doesn’t like TV partners getting too close, if you catch my drift.” Essentially, they promised not to engage in any extracurricular activities.
After Joaquin left for college in 2021, the couple grew accustomed to living in an empty nest. As Kelly explained to TopMob News in June, they had fallen into a routine of coming and going as they pleased, leaving doors unlocked at will. However, their tranquility was disrupted when Lola returned from London, necessitating the reinstatement of locking up. Joaquin came home for his summer break, and once again, they found themselves needing to lock things up.
Furthermore, when they moved to their New York apartment for a while, the lack of privacy compelled them to think outside the box. “You have no idea,” she joked, “the measures we take.
When Lola returned to live with her parents for her final college semester, she developed a habit of entering their room without knocking, much to their dismay. To gently address this issue, Mark playfully teased his daughter about what she might encounter when barging into their room unexpectedly.
During a January episode of “Live! With Kelly and Ryan”, Mark jokingly warned Lola, saying, “Watch out Lola Conseulos, isn’t this week going to be spooky?” To which Kelly responded with laughter, “What makes this week so special? Is it historically scary week?” Mark replied with a smile, “Indeed.”
The reason behind the explicit warning was that Lola had been entering their room without giving notice. Mark and Kelly explained during the episode that he had spoken to her about the matter.
“I said, ‘Lola,’ I don’t want you to misunderstand this,” he explained. “‘I’m overjoyed that you’re home. We missed you. You are the soul of our family. You’re so funny and you’re simply fantastic. But please knock before entering.’
