Kelly Monaco Leaving General Hospital After 21 Years

As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for Hollywood happenings, I must say that Kelly Monaco’s departure from General Hospital is undeniably one of the most significant shifts we’ve seen in daytime television in recent years. With over two decades spent breathing life into the character of Sam McCall, Monaco has not only left an indelible mark on the show but also carved a unique niche for herself within the soap opera realm.

Port Charles will never be the same.

After two decades and over 2,000 episodes, actress Kelly Monaco has announced her departure from the long-running series, General Hospital, as per numerous reports. The 48-year-old star initially made her mark on the spin-off show, Port Charles, portraying Livvie Locke in the year 2000. When Port Charles was taken off the air, Monaco moved to General Hospital, where she has played pivotal character Sam McCall since 2003.

It’s anticipated that Monaco will depart from the series this autumn, and various media sources are contemplating the possibility of her character being written out through a plot device involving her demise.

The Soap Opera Network was the first to report the shocking exit.

Monaco has received two Daytime Emmy Award nominations in the soap opera genre. The first was for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series on ‘Port Charles’ back in 2003, and the second was for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series on ‘General Hospital’ in 2006.

Apart from her acting career, Monaco is well-known for winning the first Mirrorball Trophy on Dancing With the Stars in 2005, partnering with professional dancer Val Chmerkovskiy. In addition, she finished third on Dancing With the Stars: All Stars in 2012. The duo reunited in January for the primetime special General Hospital: 60 Years of Stars and Storytelling.

Although Monaco hasn’t made an official statement about leaving General Hospital, it’s interesting to note that she recently spent time with former co-star Tony Geary, who departed from the show as Luke Spencer back in 2018.

On July 9th, I shared an Instagram post featuring my cherished friend, Geary, and me in Amsterdam. The caption read, “Paying a visit to my most precious friend… TG. #Amsterdam.”

2017 saw Monaco expressing her gratitude for her fans’ support during challenging periods, as revealed in an interview with Michael Fairman.

She expressed that her fans are extraordinary, offering their unwavering support in good times and bad. They have an uncanny knack for sensing when she’s going through something, even if she remains silent. It feels like we share a truly remarkable connection.
