The singer of “Cowboys Cry Too” revealed that her cherished pet dog, Dibs (named after one of her 2014 songs), was diagnosed with cancer, making it challenging for her to concentrate on her forthcoming album titled Patterns.
Kelsea expressed on her Instagram Stories on August 28 that she feels a bit incongruous about promoting this album and its tracklist (which she’s incredibly proud of), without first sharing updates about her well-being.
Over the past couple of days, a 30-year-old individual shared the unfortunate news that Dibs has an advanced heart cancer which cannot be operated on. Fortunately, he is not suffering any pain at the moment, and so far, it hasn’t spread beyond his heart. Now, they are discussing the next course of action together with Dibs’ medical team.
She mentioned that they would initiate a strong medication regimen for him. The aim is to ensure he experiences as many peaceful and joyful days (weeks, months) as we can give him.
Moreover, Kelsea expresses immense gratitude towards her mother, Carla, playfully mentioning that her brother, Dibs, is a big fan of Kelsea’s grandma. She also praises her boyfriend, Chase Stokes, affectionately referring to him as “the best dog father in the world.”
She went on to say, “This is a challenging and sentimental period for me. He’s been my little one and my constant companion for the past nine years, sharing in our entire adventure together.”
The singer of “This Feeling”, along with posting an adorable snapshot of her dog on her Stories, chose to inform her followers about this news since she’s aware that they care deeply for the pup and are sending him positive thoughts and affection.
She also expressed her gratitude from the depths of her heart, adding that he was undoubtedly wagging his tail as a sign of appreciation too.
Kelsea’s affection for Dibs, who also has his own Instagram account, has played a significant role in her life for many years. In fact, he received a special mention on her 2023 song “Penthouse,” where she sang, “I purchased the home with a boundary, spacious enough for some children, a garden for Dibs.”
Beyond this, he has consistently supported her, with a particular emphasis during the early stages of her musical career.
In a 2020 Pedigree advertisement, she expressed that when she embarked on her travels, it was the first time she’d ever truly been independent. At times, she missed home and longed for the companionship of a pet, saying, “I just wish I had a dog.”
