Kevin Bacon Reunites With Crazy Stupid Love Co-Star in Dark New Netflix Series

Warning: this article contains slight SPOILERS for Sirens.

In the new Netflix drama series titled “Sirens“, Kevin Bacon serves as a key figure alongside other gifted actors. Notably, one of his co-stars presents an unexpected reunion for Kevin Bacon. Renowned in Hollywood, Kevin Bacon has been active since the 1970s, making it no wonder that he would eventually cross paths with some of his esteemed fellow actors again. With a diverse filmography spanning iconic movies like “A Few Good Men, Apollo 13, Footloose, Friday the 13th“, and many more, Kevin Bacon continues to make a significant impact in the entertainment industry.

In the show “Sirens,” Kevin Bacon plays the role of Peter Kell, a billionaire married to Michaela. From the outset, Michaela is portrayed as the antagonist, and Peter’s actions towards her don’t exactly challenge this perception. While it’s clear that Michaela exerts an unusual influence over the island’s inhabitants, Peter conceals his own mysteries within “Sirens,” making it hard for viewers to trust any of the characters in the series. Despite their personal issues, the pair are entertaining to watch together, although “Sirens” presents Bacon and Michaela’s actor with roles that differ significantly from their previous film collaboration.

Sirens’ Julianne Moore & Kevin Bacon Previously Appeared As A Couple In Crazy, Stupid, Love

Bacon’s Character Only Appears Briefly, But Is Very Memorable

Prior to their role as a married couple in the series “Sirens“, Kevin Bacon and Julianne Moore shared the screen in the 2011 film “Crazy, Stupid, Love“. In this movie, we follow the character Cal (Steve Carell), who is struggling with his emotions after his wife, Emily (Julianne Moore), makes the decision to leave him by pursuing relationships with other women. It was revealed that Emily had been unfaithful to Cal with her colleague, David Lindhagen (Bacon), and subsequently started dating him.

David Lindhagen may not be the most prominent figure in the movie “Crazy, Stupid, Love”, but he undeniably leaves a lasting impression. The pairing of Bacon and Moore is exceptional as they portray an awkward duo attempting to navigate past Emily’s previous relationship. As the story unfolds, their lives intertwine in unforeseen manners, culminating in an iconic and side-splitting fight scene that stands out. It’s worth noting that this scene, among others, highlights the exceptional skills of the entire cast, displaying their talent for delivering lines effectively and executing physical humor masterfully.

Julianne Moore & Kevin Bacon’s Sirens Roles Are Much Darker Than In Crazy, Stupid, Love

Crazy, Stupid, Love Is Light-Hearted Comedy At Its Best

Initially, upon its debut, the movie titled “Crazy, Stupid, Love” received mostly favorable feedback from critics and proved successful at the box office, with viewers appreciating its intricate narratives and gentle humor. Over time, it has retained popularity within the genre and continues to be well-received on repeat viewings. Essentially, “Crazy, Stupid, Love” is a heartwarming film that’s simple to watch and savor. On the other hand, “Sirens” adopts a significantly darker perspective on love and marriage, as portrayed by Bacon and Moore in their characters Peter and Michaela.

Initially, the series Sirens appears to follow Devon as she ventures to Kell’s home to rescue her sister from Michaela’s clutches. However, upon arrival, it becomes evident that there is a much deeper narrative at play. Swiftly, Devon uncovers secrets about Peter, such as his previous marriage and the existence of two adult children. More intriguingly, Peter’s first wife vanished under mysterious circumstances, and the townsfolk of Sirens suspect Michaela of being involved in her disappearance, fueling Devon’s suspicions. Furthermore, Peter and Michaela’s relationship sometimes appears cold, with Michaela questioning whether he might be unfaithful.

As a fan, I must admit that while “Crazy, Stupid, Love” does have its moments where the characters seem disheartened about the future of their relationships and finding new love, overall, the movie exudes optimism. The characters are intentionally complex because life and love often are. On the other hand, “Sirens” deliberately presents its characters as flawless at first glance. At a quick glance, Peter and Michaela appear to have a wonderful marriage and a picture-perfect life. Yet, upon closer inspection, their story unravels into something quite different, making the performances of John Corbett and Emily Watson in “Sirens” an intriguing contrast to their roles in the 2011 comedy film.
