Kevin Costner wants to continue Horizon story: “I’m gonna make it”

As a seasoned moviegoer with decades of film-watching under my belt, I can’t help but feel a pang of empathy for Kevin Costner and his Western saga, Horizon. Having been around long enough to remember the glory days of epics like Dances with Wolves and Open Range, it’s heartening to see a passionate artist like Costner pouring his heart and soul into such a grand project.

It can be concluded that the initial installment of Kevin Costner’s extensive Western tale, Horizon, didn’t fare as well as he hoped – neither in the eyes of critics nor financially. However, the man behind Yellowstone is not ready to abandon his cherished venture just yet.

In a new development, the second part of “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2” was shown at the Venice Film Festival yesterday, after its initial release date had been postponed indefinitely. Following the screening, Costner expressed optimism about the prospects of his ambitious production.

According to reports from Deadline, he shared that the upcoming third installment will be incredibly impactful, expressing his eagerness to proceed with its production, as both the script for this chapter and one for a potential fourth part have already been penned down.

I need to act fast and prevent this boulder from rolling back down,” I exclaimed. “Guess I’ll have to get a grip on it once more and give it a good heave upward. This rock is like a stubborn mule I can’t afford to let go of.

He added: “I don’t know how I’m gonna make 3 right now, but I’m gonna make it.”

In the cinematic world I’m immersed in, not only do I have the privilege of directing and co-writing our films, but I also have the pleasure of sharing the screen with some extraordinary talents such as Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, and Jena Malone. These are just a few names from our extensive ensemble cast that brings our stories to life in an unforgettable way.

In the heart of the 19th century’s latter years, I find myself drawn into a tale that unfolds as diverse families journey westward, from Wyoming to Kansas, captivated by the allure of the Old West. As the narrative unfurls, I find myself identifying with Hayes Ellison, a seasoned cowboy, who finds himself in a precarious predicament – on the run, accompanied by a prostitute and a young boy, having taken the life of another gunman.

Initial responses to the second edition have been rather unimpressive, yet it seems that Costner remains undeterred by this response, as he has already invested a considerable portion of his personal funds into the production.

Initially, the second movie was scheduled for a cinema release on August 16th, only six weeks following the premiere of the first one. However, due to the underwhelming box office reception of the initial film, these plans were temporarily postponed.

Costner has shared that he believes the movie will hit theaters before 2024 ends, however, there’s yet to be any formal announcement regarding a specific release date.
