Marvel’s lineup extends well into the next decade, as confirmed by Kevin Feige. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is intricately segmented into sagas and phases, each clearly outlining the overarching narrative in every movie. The initial saga was the Infinity Saga, which depicted the early stages of the MCU as characters and stories started intertwining around powerful artifacts called the Infinity Stones. We’re all familiar with how this ended, culminating in the releases of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, effectively wrapping up Thanos’ quest for the omnipotent stones.
First Steps, which will lead right into the events of Avengers: Doomsday. This is believed to be the last phase of the Multiverse Saga as the MCU moves towards Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars. However, what comes after that is still a bit unclear. Kevin Feige has hinted at a sort of reset in the MCU, but he’s stopped short of calling it a reboot. Instead, it seems this might be the closest thing to a reboot we’ll see within the MCU.
Marvel Is Already Planning Its Next Three Phases
Simply put, Marvel has already planned its future direction for the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). In an interview with ComicBook, Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, shared that they are currently designing the next three phases of the MCU. Although he didn’t disclose specific details about what this new saga will involve, it promises to be something significant and impressive.
Feige mentioned that the team is currently focusing on the upcoming trilogy, which represents a saga’s three phases. However, it’s crucial to note that the initial film of this new saga will be influenced significantly by the current projects, including these movies and Secret Wars.
Independently, Feige shared with Deadline that Marvel Studios has planned movies up until the year 2032 as part of a seven-year strategy. This suggests that much, if not all, of phase 7 might already be in development, possibly featuring upcoming films like the next X-Men movie. Moreover, when ComicBook questioned Feige about plans to resolve character arcs and storylines initiated in the Multiverse Saga post-credits scenes, such as Hercules and Harry Styles’ Eros, he didn’t rule out the possibility.
Feige stated that while there are specific plans for certain characters, opportunities abound for everyone. It’s all about seizing the right moment, as some might never return, others may appear soon, and some could take as long as 17 years, like Tim Blake Nelson’s character. The mystery lies in it all; it’s equally about the actors and their characters. Our eagerness to work with these actors is a significant factor, leading to most collaborations, but we want to see where they grow. However, we won’t change a storyline just for the sake of including an actor because they’ve been part of it before.
Feige hinted that Marvel might eventually replace some major characters, such as Iron Man, so they can explore fresh tales for these legendary figures. It’s uncertain whether this change will occur in the upcoming series or if it’s far off in the future. However, Marvel is currently planning at least another ten years of movies.
