Kevin Feige Teases Scarlet Witch’s Future in the MCU: ”We’re Excited”

As a long-time Marvel fan, I can confidently say that Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch holds a special place in my heart. Her journey from an oppressed villain to a complex, multidimensional hero has been nothing short of captivating. The recent teases about her potential return have me on the edge of my seat!

Among many desired elements from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the resurrection of Wanda Maximoff, also known as the Scarlet Witch, is high on fans’ wish list. Although some anticipated her comeback in the recent “Agatha All Along” series, it didn’t materialize as expected. Instead, the show sparked even more curiosity about her character and destiny. However, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has recently spoken about the future, suggesting comments that could excite fans. In an interview with Omelete, Feige did not disclose any specific plans for Wanda but expressed eagerness to discover “when and in what manner Scarlet Witch can reappear.

We recently watched ‘Agatha All Along’ on Disney+, and it was a fantastic show for us,” Feige stated. “Ever since then, numerous questions have lingered in fans’ minds about Wanda, so I can only express our excitement to discover when and how the Scarlet Witch will reappear.

It’s worth noting that Feige’s comments didn’t provide concrete information or definitive announcements, but they did express a positive outlook about the character’s potential role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In some ways, his enthusiasm echoes the cautious and deliberate approach taken by Agatha All Along showrunner Jac Schaeffer when discussing Wanda’s status, as shown in Episode 1 where Aubrey Plaza’s character, Rio/Death, referred to Wanda as having vanished.

In a recent interview, Schaeffer emphasized that the term ‘departed’ or ‘vanished’ carries significance for him, as he was specifically told to employ the term ‘gone’.

In a distinctly different sense, the term “gone” implies a potential return, unlike “dead.” This is because if someone is merely gone, they theoretically could reappear. As Feige noted, it’s all about when and how. The series Agatha All Along definitely set the stage for this. Billy has resurfaced, now identified as William Kaplan, and Tommy is out there too, somewhere. Although Billy made it clear in the series that Wanda isn’t his “mother” in the traditional sense, given their similar powers, Billy, guided by Agatha, might seek out Wanda when he ventures into the world, especially if they locate Tommy. It’s plausible that the return of Billy and Tommy could also be a catalyst for Wanda’s reappearance, considering how significant finding her children was to her story in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where she appeared to perish.

Although Agatha All Along and Billy’s story may not directly lead to Scarlet Witch’s return in WandaVision, another spinoff focusing on Vision is being developed. This series could potentially set the stage for Wanda’s comeback based on its narrative. Additionally, a third Doctor Strange film might offer an opportunity to delve into her return as well. It’s worth noting that despite playing an antagonist role in Doctor Strange 2, Wanda ultimately realized her mistakes by the end, which is why she brought down Mount Wundagore and destroyed all copies of the Darkhold.

Instead of focusing solely on the “how” of things, it seems that timing might play a more significant role. The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s upcoming movie lineup appears to be building towards “Avengers: Endgame” (or “Avengers: Doomsday”) and “Avengers: Secret Wars,” with “Captain America: Brave New World” and “Thunderbolts” set for release next year. Although details about “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” are scarce, it’s also on the horizon. As of now, there’s no word about a second season of “Agatha All Along“, which may indicate that Phase Six could shift away from the mystical and magical aspects of Marvel for the time being. However, with Feige hinting at potential answers regarding Wanda’s fate, fans remain hopeful.

Both WandaVision and Agatha All Along are streaming on Disney+.
