Kevin Owens Has Not Re-Signed With WWE, Current Contract Expires "Early Next Year"

As a die-hard wrestling fan with a knack for nostalgia, I find myself drawn to the enigmatic journey of Kevin Owens. Ten years with WWE, multiple championship reigns, and main eventing WrestleMania not once, but twice – this man has truly left his mark on the wrestling world.

As a die-hard fan, I’ve always admired the incredible journey of Kevin Owens within the wrestling world. Since signing his initial contract with WWE in 2014 following an impressive stint at the Performance Center, he quickly made waves when he challenged John Cena for the United States Championship just shy of a year into his tenure. His electrifying debut victory over Big Match John marked the beginning of one of the most illustrious careers in modern WWE history.

What’s next for Kevin Owens?

In a conversation with Sports Illustrated, Owens disclosed that the only modification in his contract situation is that there’s now less time remaining on his agreement. This expands upon his earlier statement made in May, when he mentioned that his contract would end in the early portion of the following year.

It feels like a deja vu situation for Owens, as he finds himself in the same predicament that occurred three years ago. In autumn of 2021, Owens and his close friend Sami Zayn found themselves questioning their future with WWE, since they were both set to become free agents at the beginning of 2022. However, they both chose to remain and ended up as main event stars for WWE WrestleMania 39 in April 2023 together.

For the past ten years, this place has been my home, and it extends far beyond just a locker room, Owens stated in May. There are some extraordinarily special individuals who work behind the scenes here that I have grown incredibly close to, and I truly can’t envision not having them as part of my life anymore.

It’s worth noting that Owens also has some very special people on the other side of the fence.

Before joining WWE, Kenny Owens had a shared locker room experience in Ring of Honor (ROH) and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG) with numerous current All Elite Wrestling (AEW) performers, including AEW Executive Vice Presidents The Young Bucks. Additionally, Owens maintains close friendships with AEW stars Adam Cole and Mark Briscoe.

Tony Khan, AEW President, expressed enthusiasm in December 2021 about potentially bringing Owens into AEW. He remarked that Owens is an exceptional wrestler. However, it seems he decided to join another company, possibly at a high compensation. Khan considers this a positive development for Owens and wishes him well. Regardless of where he lands, Khan believes Owens will excel as a wrestler.

This coming Saturday, August 31st, it’s Owens who steps up against Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship at the WWE Bash in Berlin.
