Kevin Smith Reveals Jay & Silent Bob 3 Title and Story

As a long-time fan of Kevin Smith‘s work and a dedicated follower of his Jay and Silent Bob saga, I’m absolutely thrilled to hear that we’re getting another installment in the series! The title “Jay & Silent Bob: Store Wars” is a clever play on words that has me excited for the upcoming marijuana dispensary war between our beloved duo.

After initially announcing plans for a third “Jay & Silent Bob” movie months ago, independent filmmaker Kevin Smith unveiled over the weekend that the upcoming film will be called “Jay & Silent Bob: Store Wars”. This title is inspired by the classic “Star Wars” series (instead of “The Empire Strikes Back”, which was used in their first film). In this installment, Jay and Bob run a marijuana dispensary out of the old RST Video storefront. However, trouble arises when another dispensary opens up in town, leading to some heated confrontations. It’s time to dust off the blueprints and put on the Batman-shaped hat, Silent Bob!

As a die-hard fan, I must admit that I was thrilled when Smith unveiled a sneak peek of his upcoming movie titled “The 4:30 Movie” during the weekend at San Diego. Contrary to some expectations, this film won’t star our beloved duo Jay and Bob, but it promises to hit theaters this coming December!

Smith shared on his “Fatman Beyond” podcast in December 2023 that he was working on a new Jay and Silent Bob film. Originally, we intended to create the third installment when Jay’s daughter Logan turned 18, allowing her to portray Harley’s daughter, making for an amusing twist. However, Mewes expressed disappointment at having to wait ten years for another movie, so Smith decided to write a new script. He is penning it in the same style as “Red State,” ensuring unexpected twists and punchlines by writing the opposite of what he initially intends.

1994 marked the debut of characters Jay and Silent Bob in the movie “Clerks,” making this year their 30th anniversary. This milestone holds double significance as Kevin Smith, their creator, retains ownership of these characters within his shared universe (the View Askewniverse). Therefore, he has been celebrating 30 years of Jay and Silent Bob at his comic shop (Jay & Silent Bob’s Secret Stash) and theater (Smodcastle Cinemas) throughout the year.

I’m a huge fan of the dynamic duo, Jay and Bob! Over the years, they have graced our screens in an impressive eight live-action films directed by Smith. These include “Clerks,” “Mallrats,” “Chasing Amy,” “Dogma,” “Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back,” “Clerks II,” and their latest adventure, “Jay & Silent Bob Reboot.” Not only that, but they’ve also made appearances in an animated movie and series. Plus, they’ve popped up in cameos for movies and TV shows like “Scream 3.” Wow, what a journey it has been following these characters!

The movie’s filming details, such as when and where, are still under wraps, with only a vague “later this year” announcement given. Smith has worked on projects in New Jersey, Los Angeles, and Louisiana, among other sites.)
