As a lifelong fan of Kevin Smith and his unique brand of storytelling, I am beyond excited for the upcoming release of “The 4:30 Movie.” Having grown up in the ’80s myself, I can relate to the nostalgic charm that this film promises. The fact that it’s based on Smith’s own childhood experiences and filmed at his very own movie theater only adds to the authenticity and appeal.
Kevin Smith recently unveiled the theatrical preview for his upcoming film titled “The 4:30 Movie.” This R-rated production, set in 1986, is a humorous take on some of the mischievous acts he and his friends engaged in around their old neighborhood movie theater. As part-owner of this historic venue, Smith filmed much of the movie on location and intends to host its premiere there as well. In addition to revealing the film’s poster on Instagram, Smith presented the initial trailer during his Hall H panel at San Diego Comic Con over the weekend. He announced that it would be publicly released today.
On Mondays, you can purchase tickets for the upcoming movie premiere. This event will be held at Smodcastle Cinemas in New Jersey, acting as a fundraiser to support the theater. Given that the theater is classified as a 501C(3) charitable organization, your ticket purchase would equate to a generous contribution.
In the movie trailer and poster, actor Nick Cirillo wears a t-shirt from Atlantic Cinemas in a scene. This logo represents the old brand of the cinema before Smith’s Smodcastle took over in 2022. The poster showcases Cirillo alongside his co-stars, Reed Northrup, Austin Zajur, and Siena Agudong. Fans of Smith will recognize Zajur as Blockchain Coltrane from “Clerks III.” He also featured in Smith’s 2020 webseries titled “Son-in-Lockdown,” and off-camera, he has been in a long-term relationship with Smith’s daughter Harley.
When we purchased Smodcastle Cinemas that day, I didn’t just regain a significant piece of my childhood memories, but also gained an intriguing and cost-free filming location with stunning visuals! Smith expressed in a statement. Thus, I began crafting a heartfelt ode to the past for us kids from the ’70s and ’80s – an era devoid of internet, where romance and relationships demanded more effort than just a swipe, and asking out someone you had a crush on was as nerve-wracking as the impending fear of nuclear war looming over our heads.
Here’s the official synopsis for the film:
In the scorching summer of 1986, the film “The 4:30 Movie” follows the journey of three sixteen-year-old pals (portrayed by Austin Zajur, Nicholas Cirillo, and Reed Northrup). Every Saturday, they secretly watch movies at their local cinema. However, when one friend invites the girl he admires (Siena Agudong) to see a new comedy, each teen will discover valuable lessons about life and love before the film’s end.
As an avid fan, I’m thrilled to share that this production boasts a stellar cast with me being a part of it. Ken Jeong, Sam Richardson, Genesis Rodriguez, Justin Long, Jason Lee, Rachel Dratch, Kate Micucci, Adam Pally, Harley Quinn Smith, and Method Man are all on board! What an amazing lineup of talented actors!
Liz Destro, Josh Bachove, and Jordan Monsanto are the film’s producers. Bill Bromiley and Shanan Becker serve as executive producers.
The 4:30 Movie will be in theaters on September 13rd.
