Kidnapped Boy Found Alive After 7 Years

A family has been reunited after seven years of searching.

In 2017, Abdul Aziz Khan, who was the subject of a longstanding custody dispute, was kidnapped by his non-custodial parent, Rabia Khalid, in Atlanta, Georgia. Fast forward to February 23, 2022, he was discovered during an attempted break-in in Colorado. At the time of the abduction, Abdul was only 5 years old and had been taken by Rabia and her new spouse as part of the custody dispute with his father, according to Douglas County authorities.

40-year-old Khalid and 42-year-old Elliot Blake Bourgeois were taken into custody by Douglas County law enforcement in response to a call about trespassing in an empty house in Highlands Ranch. The homeowners had spotted unusual activity on their security system. Initially, Khalid and Bourgeois claimed they were working with the realtor of the property, but after several hours of interrogation, authorities identified them as accomplices to a kidnapping case, according to Douglas County officials.

Back in 2017, when I was deeply engrossed in the world of Unsolved Mysteries on Netflix, little did I know that one of its episodes would unravel a captivating tale close to my heart. As it turned out, the very woman whose story unfolded before my eyes on that screen, none other than Khan’s mother, had an outstanding warrant for kidnapping. This shocking revelation came to light when she was apprehended due to her absence at a custody hearing in Atlanta, in the chilling month of November 2017. Quite ironically, this intriguing twist was only brought to my attention years later, during a gripping episode of Unsolved Mysteries, leaving me absolutely spellbound.

After her recent arrest, Khalid and Bourgeois were taken into custody by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office on charges that include second-degree kidnapping, forgery, identity theft, giving false information to authorities, and trespassing. Their bail has been set at $1 million each. (It should be noted that they are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.)

Additionally, in a car near the empty house where Khalid and Bourgeois were found by officials, another unidentified young child, besides Khan, was also rescued.

After Khan’s recovery, he, along with the other child, were taken into protective custody.

Khan’s family expressed immense happiness after Aziz was located, as they shared later on. They expressed gratitude to everyone who offered support during the past seven years. Particularly, they acknowledged the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office for their outstanding efforts in resolving this case. As we embark on the next stages, they kindly request privacy to help them progress as a family and heal collectively.

TopMob News has contacted the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office for more details, but we are still waiting for a response.
