Kieran Culkin‘s brutal Adrien Brody shoutout turned out to be spot-on.
At the SAG Awards last month, the actor from Succession who received the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for “A Real Pain” at the 2025 Academy Awards, cautioned Brody during his acceptance speech. He advised him to ensure his speech would not exceed the 45-second time limit if he won an award that evening.
Macaulay Culkin playfully thanked SAG-AFTRA, remarking that the award was quite hefty. He jokingly added that perhaps they placed it there since no one could possibly carry it for 45 seconds, which is the given time limit.
He then emphasized, “Adrian Brody, 45 seconds.”
Though Timothée Chalamet claimed the award that evening, I was fortunate enough to be recognized with the Best Actor Oscar for my exceptional performance in “The Brutalist” at the prestigious Academy Awards. Ignoring Andrew Culkin’s earlier advice, I seized the opportunity to address the audience during a five-minute speech, where I kindly requested the orchestra to pause their music and wrap up the celebration. (You can find the list of all the night’s winners here.)
He finished speaking and asked for the music to stop because he’d done this many times before and would keep things short.
Following that, he spoke on for approximately a further minute. Interestingly, his 558-word address marked the longest acceptance speech ever given at the Oscars, by a 51-year-old individual.
During his speech, Brody shared a valuable insight: “Returning here has given me some perspective,” he said. Regardless of where one stands in their career or achievements, everything can be lost. What truly makes this occasion unique, according to him, is the heightened understanding of this fact.
He went on to say, “This is a fresh start, an opportunity. For the following two decades, I hope to seize the chance to demonstrate that I deserve significant, impactful, and pertinent roles by proving my worth.
In a unique feat, Brody acknowledged his gratitude towards Georgina Chapman, who is his partner, and the two kids she has from her previous relationship with Harvey Weinstein.
He excitedly revealed that Georgina, his incredible partner, not just boosted his personal esteem, but also his perception of his worth and his moral compass.
Brody continued, “Dash and India, despite the ups and downs, I want to express my gratitude for welcoming me into your lives. Popsie is returning as a victor.
