Indeed, it’s been a while since we’ve heard from the intense shooter series, Killzone, by Guerrilla Games. And judging by the sentiments of its series composer, Joris de Man, it appears that many share this sentiment.
As I chat with VideoGamer before PlayStation’s grand music tour, de Man casually mentions the concept of remasters, expressing his belief that this venture could prove to be exceptionally thriving, perhaps even surpassing the excitement generated by a fresh installment within the series.
He shares his thoughts: “I believe it’s shaky due to my lack of insight regarding Guerrilla or any related matters… I can’t predict if it will come to fruition. I hope it does as the franchise seems quite renowned, but also it needs to address the evolving preferences and sensitivities because it can be quite grim in certain aspects.
As a long-time fan who’s deeply immersed in the world of Killzone, I can see where you’re coming from. For years, the gaming community has been clamoring for the series’ comeback. However, it’s no secret that Guerrilla Games has achieved immense success with Horizon Zero Dawn, a game that de Man also contributed to as a composer. Stepping back into Killzone might appear as an unneeded detour at first glance, given the current momentum they have.
As a follower, I sometimes ponder whether the audience has outgrown it and yearns for something new. To be honest, there are moments when I feel they’re seeking a more relaxed, speedier experience.
Indeed, Killzone was known for its strategic, slower-paced gameplay in contrast to fast-action shooters such as Call of Duty during the PS3 era. Although a portion of us believes that there could still be an audience for this style of play, we understand why the developers chose to alter their approach.
