Kim Kardashian Reacts to Menendez Brothers’ Parole Recommendation

As an ardent advocate for social justice and a firm believer in second chances, I find myself deeply moved by Kim Kardashian‘s stance on the Menendez brothers’ case. Her tireless efforts to shed light on injustices, particularly those affecting victims of abuse, are truly commendable.

Kim Kardashian is showing her support for Erik and Lyle Menendez as they inch closer to freedom.

After Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced his intention to suggest that the brothers convicted of killing their parents José Menendez and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez in 1989 receive a sentence of 50 years to life with the possibility of parole instead of life without parole, the founder of SKIMS expressed her appreciation.

In a post on her Instagram Stories after the October 24th press conference, Kim, an advocate for social justice reform, expressed gratitude to George Gascón for reconsidering the Menendez brothers’ case. She believes that this action will give them a second chance at life and makes them eligible for a parole hearing tomorrow. In her view, Gascón is correcting a substantial injustice.

At the age of 21, Lyle, and his younger brother Erik, who was 18 at the time, were found guilty in a 1995 retrial for fatally shooting José and Kitty. In their initial trial in 1993, the jury couldn’t reach a verdict due to deadlock, leading to a second trial. During both trials, the brothers claimed that they had been physically, emotionally, and sexually abused by their parents for years. However, during the latter trial, the judge ruled out most of the evidence regarding sexual abuse.

In this piece, I delve into the central narrative of the latest edition of Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series, “Monsters,” that started streaming last month, rekindling the tale of the brothers who have once again become a topic of widespread conversation, following years since their televised trial.

In a post following Ryan Murphy’s TV show, Kim stated that the media’s intense scrutiny brought light to the abuse and unfairness in this particular case. With society becoming more aware of child abuse due to advancements, social media gives us the power to challenge and question existing systems. This case underscores the significance of questioning decisions, pursuing truth, and not shying away from examining guilt or innocence.

At that press gathering, the District Attorney expressed that, despite the absence of any justification for taking a life, he firmly felt that those siblings had been deeply immersed in an overwhelming level of domestic turmoil and abuse.

He pointed out that, on numerous occasions, people might not trust victims of sexual assault, regardless of their gender. It’s crucial to recognize that these biases, both hidden and overt, related to sexual misconduct can lead to unfair treatment within our society.

Should the judge adopt Gascón’s suggestion for re-sentencing, both Lyle (aged 56) and Erik (aged 53) could become eligible for immediate release on parole, as they were below the age of 26 when they committed the murders of their parents.

In September, Kim encountered the Menendez brothers at their San Diego prison, and was accompanied by actor Cooper Koch from the show “Monsters,” who portrayed Erik. Later on, she penned an opinion piece expressing her hope that their life sentences would be reviewed.

She penned in her NBC News article that it’s our responsibility towards the young boys who missed out on their childhoods, as they were never given a platform to speak, assisted, or rescued.
