The fact that Kim Kardashian owns an original Jean-Michel Basquiat painting is nothing short of astounding, especially considering its impressive price tag and historical significance.

Therefore, it is because the Kardashian celebrity owns a unique Jean-Michel Basquiat artwork that adorns one of the rooms in her California residence.
In a recent Instagram post by Kris Jenner, she showcased images from Kim’s enchanting “Wicked” viewing party at her residence. At this event, I proudly displayed my artwork titled “Both Poles,” which graced the walls of a pristine white hallway, flanked by vibrant green and pink accents.
In 2017, Christie’s initially offered the artwork to the public at an approximate price of $4.9 million. According to Widewalls, an online art marketplace, it was most recently purchased in 2020 for slightly more than $5.1 million.
1982 saw the birth of this artwork, which is a blend of acrylic, oilstick, and paper collage on a canvas supported by tied wooden structures. As described by the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, it contrasts themes such as North and South, heaven and earth, and delves into excavation and transmission using symbols like mountains, the moon, a pickaxe, and a power pylon.
The post from Basquiat’s estate on Instagram noted that he was fascinated by the dualities of richness/poverty, unity/segregation, words/images, and representation/abstraction. Despite these concepts being opposing forces, Basquiat’s artwork consistently explores their interconnected nature.
However, it’s not just Kim who values expensive yet invaluable pieces of art within her family. Her sibling, Kylie Jenner, also owns a Basquiat painting, which she showcased during a 2019 tour of her home with Architectural Digest.
Besides her Kylie Cosmetics empire, the entrepreneur also boasts an art collection featuring pieces from artists like Andy Warhol and Damien Hirst.
Currently, Kendall Jenner owns a $75,000 wall sculpture by James Turrell, which is placed in her entrance hall. She got acquainted with Turrell’s art through her sister Kim’s former partner, Kanye West.
In 2020, she expressed to AD that she has always been a great admirer of Turrell’s work. She desired for this particular artwork to serve as the central attraction of her home, and she is thrilled beyond words to have it in her space now.
In the year 2023, Travis Barker gave Kourtney Kardashian Yoshitomo Nara’s “Love! Somethin'” drawing as a birthday gift when she turned 44. This signed sketch had been auctioned off by Sotheby’s earlier that year for around $161,819.
