King of The Hill Revival Where Hank And Peggy Have Been

On August 4th, Hulu will transport viewers back to Arlen, Texas as the Hill family makes their return for a fourteenth season of “King Of The Hill”. After the unveiling of the revival’s new theme song, enthusiasts of this quirky animated series have been given a glimpse into what some of these characters have been doing since the previous series ending and up until the new episodes. Although not shown in the theme song, a recent interview with “King of The Hill” co-creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels has shed light on Hank and Peggy’s activities during that period.

In a surprising twist, not only did the Hill family depart from Arlen but it seems they left the United States completely following the end of the original series. Thanks to Hank landing a new job, the family moved to Saudi Arabia, specifically the Aramco military base. As revealed in an interview with Vulture, creator Greg Daniels explains how this location was more like a ‘perfect suburban’ setting compared to Arlen: “We thought it would be fitting since he had been away for some time that we could place the family in the most idyllic small-town setting possible, and an Aramco base is essentially an idealized version of white-picket-fence America. They moved to Saudi Arabia and returned just as they missed out on a lot of recent cultural developments.

A Different King of The Hill

In addition to Daniels’ disclosure about the Hills in Saudi Arabia, Mike Judge indicated that the revival would focus on things that Hank and Peggy have missed during their absence, essentially stating, “There’s been so much change in the world since the show ended; there’s just more for Hank to find reasons to grumble about.

In a recent interview, the new showrunner Saladin K. Patterson talked about Hank’s comeback and his role in the revival within this fresh setting: “In the original series, Hank embodied the balanced center, the show did an excellent job portraying the extremes and guiding viewers towards what common sense represented. However, with Hank away, the nation has undergone significant changes, making the position he once held in the middle no longer the middle ground.

Having spent years working in Saudi Arabia to save up for their retirement, Hank and Peggy Hill return to their hometown of Arlen, Texas. They aim to rekindle relationships with old friends such as Dale, Boomhauer, and Bill.” The upcoming season consists of ten episodes and is expected to bring significant changes to all the returning characters.
