Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link Cancelled, Square Enix “Hard at Work” on Kingdom Hearts 4

As a dedicated gamer, I was eagerly awaiting the release of Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link, the mobile action RPG that was announced back in 2022. Sadly, my dreams of exploring this new world have been dashed as the game has been cancelled. Despite working tirelessly to fine-tune and perfect it, Square Enix shared on Twitter that they had hoped it would provide hours of enjoyment for many players like myself, but unfortunately, it was not meant to be.

Ultimately, we came to understand that maintaining a service that players could enjoy for an extended time might prove challenging. As a result, we made the tough choice to discontinue our development.

As an ardent fan, I’m thrilled to share that our dedicated team is pouring their heart and soul into crafting the next chapter of the beloved series, Kingdom Hearts 4. This exciting announcement was made back in April 2022, alongside another project known as Missing-Link. What sets this sequel apart is its development on the cutting-edge Unreal Engine 5. As for specifics like platforms, release dates, and more, we’re still keeping those details under wraps for now. Stay tuned for more updates!

Despite the unexpected cancellation of Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link, it’s worth noting that Square Enix has a history of releasing mobile games, only to discontinue support shortly after. Games such as Echoes of Mana, Bravely Default: Brilliant Lights, and Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier fall into this category.

Regarding the future of their business, Square Enix has unveiled a three-year strategy centered around an AI-centric R&D division to develop advanced tools. They remain committed to their multiplatform approach and will discontinue projects that are not advancing as planned. Find further information by clicking here.
