Although Yudetagamago’s original “Kinnikuman” manga may not be as globally renowned as other Weekly Shonen Jump releases outside Japan, it’s undoubtedly one of the most intriguing projects. This summer marked the first new TV anime project for “Kinnikuman” in thirty years, picking up exactly where the original series left off. Now, we eagerly await its continuation in 2025.

It appears that the odds were defied when it was announced that a second season of the TV anime “Kinnikuman Perfect Origin Arc” would follow its debut this summer, sparking curiosity among fans about its release date. A recent update from Pony Canyon on their official social media has confirmed that Season 2 of “Kinnikuman Perfect Origin Arc” is now set to premiere starting January 12th in Japan as part of the Winter 2025 anime lineup. The second season of “Kinnikuman Perfect Origin Arc” is set to debut on January 12th, as part of the upcoming Winter 2025 anime lineup. This new season will be available for streaming worldwide on Netflix. To get up-to-speed with all that transpired in the first season, you can catch up on Netflix at this time. As for what lies ahead in this upcoming season, Pony Canyon gives a sneak peek into “Kinnikuman Perfect Origin Arc”‘s return by stating, “The battle between the forces of Good and Evil, Seigi & Akuma, versus the Perfect Large Numbers Corps! The second stage commences at the Tottori Sand Dunes! Soon to be streaming on Netflix!

For the upcoming second season of the anime, it has been confirmed that the cast and crew from the initial season will be returning to their respective positions. Akira Sato will be directing the production for Studio I.G again, while Makoto Fukami takes charge of the scripts, Hirotaka Marufuji handles character designs, and Yasuharu Takanashi creates the music. The principal voice cast, including Mamoru Miyano as Kinnikuman, Akira Kamiya as Mayumi Kinniku, and Akira Kamiya as Prince Kamehame from the first season, will continue to lead the show.

Why Isn’t Kinnikuman Hitting?

Despite the significant impact that “Kinnikuman” has within Shonen Jump’s collection, its popularity outside of Japan doesn’t match the expectations of fans. This observation has also been made by the creators themselves, Yudetamago. The lukewarm response to the “Kinnikuman Perfect Origin Arc” debut last Summer left Takashi Shimada, one half of the creative duo, feeling frustrated and questioning his career as a manga creator, expressing his thoughts on social media.

Later on, Shimada explained that he didn’t seriously consider leaving his role as a creator, but had been puzzling over why the show was receiving positive ratings in Japan across TV and Netflix, yet struggled to gain traction elsewhere. The key reason seems to be that the series now demands a considerable investment from new viewers. Given that the anime continues directly from where the original TV series ended, only die-hard fans are genuinely drawn to it. Unfortunately, the original anime is hard to access in its unaltered, non-“Ultimate Muscle” format, making it difficult for newcomers to catch up promptly. However, with Season 2 approaching, at least those dedicated followers have something exciting to anticipate.
