Kirby Air Riders is Developed by Bandai Namco, Sakurai Reveals

During Nintendo’s recent Direct presentation, Kirby Air Riders was one of the first-party titles announced for the Switch 2. While we didn’t learn much about the game from a brief CG teaser, it was confirmed that Masahiro Sakurai, known for his work on Super Smash Bros. and the original 2003 Kirby Air Ride, will be directing the sequel. Interestingly, Sakurai has now shared another important detail: he himself is the one returning to lead this project after a 22-year absence.

On Twitter, Sakurai announced that Bandai Namco Studios will be developing the game Kirby Air Riders. Interestingly, this isn’t a first for Bandai Namco, as they have previously taken charge of the production of titles directed by Masahiro Sakurai, such as Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Apart from their work on these exclusive Bandai Namco games, they have additionally collaborated with Nintendo on other popular franchises such as Mario Kart 7, Mario Kart Tour, Mario Sports Superstars, and ARMS.

2023 saw Bandai Namco officially unveil the creation of Studio 2 and Studio S – teams specifically tasked with delivering projects for Nintendo.

Kirby Air Riders will launch exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 sometime this year.
