Kirk Cousins is in awe of Taylor Swift‘s fearlessness.
In the midst of internet chatter about pictures showing Travis Kelce without a shirt and sporting a slicked-back hairstyle, the quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons had some charming comments directed towards the “Blank Space” singer, who has been in a relationship with the Kansas City Chiefs tight end since 2023.
In a special interview at the debut of Universal Epic Universe in Orlando, Florida on May 21st, Kirk expressed his appreciation to TopMob News cohost Keltie Knight: “Taylor Swift is fantastic, isn’t she? It’s terrific that she’s doing well.
As a devoted fan, I mentioned that Travis’ substantial hairdo has nothing to do with football, but instead, it seems like a matter of good old genetics.
In an interview airing on TopMob May 22 at 11 p.m., he jokingly commented, “Fortunately, I don’t encounter that issue, but I spend quite a bit of time in locker rooms.” He added, “That’s just the way life goes. You take it as it comes.
It’s a sentiment shared by Travis, who has been outspoken about his hairy tendencies.
On the May 21st episode of his “New Heights” podcast, he jokingly said, “I’m like a double-layered fur, not a fan of warmth,” explaining his decision to wear two shirts during recording, indicating his discomfort with heat.
Interestingly, this 35-year-old individual has actually taken pride in his fuller figure throughout the years. He goes by the name “Big Yeti,” and he shares
It seems that Travis got his nickname because during his time at Cincinnati, he was often seen playing basketball in the local playground. As Jason, aged 37, shared on a 2022 episode, in pickup basketball games, teams are usually divided into two groups: one wearing shirts and the other with bare skin (skins).
And because Travis referred to him as someone with substantial amounts of chest, back, arm, and leg hair, he always attracted attention when he was part of the shirtless team.
Travis said, “I had a large beard and long hair. Essentially, I looked like a giant yeti to everyone, and my friends on the basketball court started calling me ‘Big Yeti’.
For more fun facts about Travis, read on.
Despite being deeply connected to Kansas City, Missouri, Travis Kelce hails from the suburbs of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, where he spent his formative years.
Instead of announcing his alma mater, University of Cincinnati, the man proudly proclaims his hometown during live game broadcasts when players are being introduced.
Which, as you might guess, has irked some fellow alums.
Travis expressed in 2019, when he and his brother Jason Kelce were inducted into the Cleveland Heights High School Hall of Fame, “I value the time I spent at the University of Cincinnati deeply, but there was a period during my time there that wasn’t simple. It was challenging. I lost my scholarship, and I made some foolish decisions. I believe many people in this room know someone from Heights who has also made questionable choices. To all my friends, I was the one who often made those poor decisions.
Not only was he deeply connected to the Heights, he explained, but each person here shared this bond. The rich tapestry of diversity found here stirred something within him. Everything he did, he declared, was in service to this city. Although it may sound trite, he assured everyone, every action of his – whether it’s dancing in the end zone or any other visible gesture – that’s Cleveland Heights, for you, right there.
2. About that revoked scholarship…
Following their unbeaten 2009 season, which culminated in a Big East championship, Travis was caught using marijuana before the 2010 Sugar Bowl. This happened after he overindulged during New Year’s Eve celebrations in New Orleans.
Beyond just missing the bowl game, I faced a harsh blow when I was suspended for the entire 2010 season by the NCAA, causing me to lose my scholarship. With nowhere else to go, I moved in with my brother Jason, making his room in their shared house my new home. To make ends meet, I took up a telemarketing job, where I spent my days calling people and asking about their opinions on the Affordable Care Act.
They did, and Travis could not wait to get back on the field.
3. Prior to focusing on football, Travis had experience playing hockey, baseball, and basketball. In high school, he was the quarterback. Notably, he was a two-star recruit for Cincinnati’s quarterback position, but later changed to tight end as part of his reinstatement into the team following his suspension. This change in position occurred due to certain conditions set forth during his reinstatement.
In his conversation with Arrowhead Pride after being drafted by the Chiefs in 2013, Travis mentioned that during that period, our team had an exceptional quarterback, Zach Collaros. However, we required reinforcements in both the running and passing games. I discussed this with my coach at the time, Butch Jones. He suggested we needed a tight end, and since my abilities, athleticism, and direction fit perfectly with that role, it turned out to be an ideal match for me.
In his interview with GQ in 2017, he expressed that people had always considered him more of a ‘tight end’ rather than a standout figure.
4. The house located on 127 W. Nixon St., where Travis shared a room with Jason and other University of Cincinnati students (Bearcats), was often the site of mischief fueled by alcohol.
Tom DeTemple, a college friend and teammate, shared with the New York Times prior to the 2024 Super Bowl that the brothers were fond of spending hours playing Nintendo 64. They would simultaneously bash controls and consume beers, he added. He also mentioned that during their gaming sessions, they would invent impromptu drinking games and excelled at them remarkably.
5. And suffice it to say, Travis is extremely proud of being a Bearcat.
He shared with reporters before the 2023 Super Bowl that the focus was on Cincinnati for him. The Chiefs had qualified by defeating the Bengals in the AFC Championship Game. He’s always been deeply connected to the University of Cincinnati, having recently received his diploma. He makes an effort to assist whenever possible and returns when he can. He misses being surrounded by the players he played with and the people he met during his time there who have consistently supported him through life’s highs and lows.
When he faced adversity with the NCAA, he responded, “Those who were part of the team and staff at my university – they had faith in my ability to change our situation and improve personally. This belief gave me great strength during that period.
6 years after leaving college to join the draft, Travis completed his interdisciplinary studies degree in 2022, but he didn’t receive his diploma until April 2024 during a surprise graduation ceremony. This event took place when they recorded a live episode of New Heights at Cincinnati’s Fifth Third Arena together with Jason.
As the graduate drew near the dean to receive his well-deserved handshake, he was already clutching a cold beer which he swiftly downed right afterward.
And Travis was going to graduate in 2022 but he missed his flight.
7. Due to some issues away from the football field, Travis was selected as the fifth tight end in the 2013 NFL Draft, going in the third round to the Chiefs. After this selection, coach Andy Reid, who had previously coached Jason in Philadelphia, asked the older Kelce brother to endorse Travis.
Andy and Travis have three Super Bowl rings to show for Jason’s endorsement.
8. For many years prior to each game, Travis would play “Burn On” by Randy Newman as his pre-match music, though the genre of his preferred tunes may have evolved since then.
Speaking on the NBC Sports podcast “PFT Live” in 2017, he shared that as a child raised on Cleveland’s east side, this particular song often stirs memories of family and reflections on his current life path, and how deeply grateful he feels about it all.
Let us explain: It’s in the opening credits of Major League, the ultimate Cleveland sports movie.
9. Everyone, including Travis, is mispronouncing his last name.
As they went along, it’s important to note that although he and Jason refer to Kelce as “Kel-see,” its actual pronunciation is similar to the word “else.
Travis’ teammate Chris Jones dropped a surprising remark on Inside the NFL in January, saying “Isn’t that f*cking crazy?”. This claim was later verified when Travis and his brothers directly addressed their father Ed Kelce about it during their New Heights podcast.
Jason wondered aloud, “What made you suddenly decide to alter your name, and now we go by ‘Kel-see’? I can’t help but question why we thought our name was ‘Kel-see’ for the initial 24 years… or rather, the last 27 years of my life, and 25 years for Trav?
Ed admitted he “got tired of correcting people” but urged his son to “do whatever you want.”
10. The jersey number 87 that Travis wears during his NFL career is a nod to Jason, who was born in the year 1987.
In an interview with NFL Films before the 2023 Super Bowl where his Chiefs faced off against his brother Jason’s Philadelphia Eagles, Travis shared that if there is a Kelce legacy in the NFL, it can be traced back to 1987, as it was then that this large-framed individual entered the world.
11. For quite some time, Travis’ foundation and Running have been generous donors to Operation Breakthrough, a charitable learning center in Kansas City. This nonprofit organization has collaborated with the athlete since his initial visit in 2015, when he went there to read “The Cat in the Hat” to the children.
Yes, reader, he wore the hat.
Afterward, Travis made investments in the Smart Lab and purchased the neighboring old muffler shop to broaden the program’s horizons, ultimately establishing the Ignition Lab. In this space, young scholars breathe new life into once discarded cars, transforming them into functioning electric vehicles that might have otherwise ended up as scrap.
12. Travis and Jason nickname their “New Heights” audience as “92 percenters,” reminiscing about a time when Jason said a specific play, the quarterback sneak, was successful approximately 92% of the time in scoring a touchdown, needing just one yard to achieve success.
Apparently, fans affectionately dubbed themselves as the “92 percenters,” a title they bestowed upon themselves, according to the podcast’s website. This term, much like a secret handshake, represents their shared bond of understanding, expressed through language instead.
Who were the Kelce brothers to argue with that?
13. Travis is accompanied by three personal trainers – Alex Skacel, Andrew Spruill, and Laurence Justin Ng – who are said to follow him everywhere, as reported by The Athletic. This practice ensures that he stays fit for football throughout the entire year.
Alex, a physical therapist as well, reminisced about Travis expressing his desire to take an evening jog following the completion of numerous fashion shows during Paris Fashion Week, as he had not exercised that day and felt the need to move.
As the clock strikes twelve, I find myself dashing across the illuminated bridges spanning the river – it’s all part of my active lifestyle. Regardless of location, I ensure that I make the most of each moment, tackling tasks and challenges head-on.
14. Kumar Ferguson, who has been friends with Travis since their days at Cleveland Heights fourth grade, serves as his private chef.
In 2016, he was both an aspiring chef and a truck driver. That year, Travis contacted him with an opportunity.
2023 saw Kumar expressing to Vanity Fair, “He said something like, ‘Dude, I’m committed to improving my diet and pushing it further.’ To which I responded, ‘Well then, let’s get started. A few days after that, I found myself in Kansas City.’
He takes care of various tasks, ranging from stocking Travis’ refrigerator to providing nutritious meals at the Chiefs’ training center.
15. With his facial hair getting scrutinized more than usual, Travis spoke about it on New Heights, sharing that he trimmed his off-season beard last year and retained the mustache as a tribute to Andy Reid’s walrus-style look from 2023, planning to continue this homage in 2024.
16. In April 2024, Travis secured a two-year contract worth $34.25 million, marking the first time in his career that he held the title of the highest-earning tight end in the NFL.
Which finally put an end to years of chatter about how much money he wasn’t making.
In a conversation with Vanity Fair in 2023, Travis joked that his managers and representatives often remind him of his undercompensation. Whenever he brings up the topic of seeking more money, they simply suggest that he approach the Chiefs about it instead.
Later on, as various alternative income streams became available to him, his primary concern shifted towards the atmosphere or ambiance rather than the size of his paycheck.
He stated, “The free market seems appealing until you find yourself not coming out on top. I thrive on victory; I enjoy my current circumstances.
He confessed that watching other players receive large paychecks leaves him with a slight feeling of discomfort. It makes him question whether he’s being treated unfairly. I’m not sure if I would achieve what they say I’m worth, given the effort I put in, but I love coming to work here every day.
17. Since his childhood days in Cleveland Heights, Travis’s fascination with clothing has been evident, as he once shared with Vanity Fair in 2023, describing his high school as a daily fashion extravaganza.
Therefore, transforming the room into a wardrobe became necessary, allowing him to store his high-end clothing collection and over 300 pairs of sneakers – including a set of Nike Air Mags (size 13) that he bought using a significant portion of his first year’s earnings, despite them being slightly too small for him.
In the early stages of his career, before the advent of numerous sneaker apps, he shared with the Wall Street Journal that he would simply purchase the shoe size available for the desired pair.
He’s strongly associated with Nike shoes, but not only due to their endorsement deals. Additionally, Chuck Taylors carry a special place in his heart as they evoke memories of the fictional baseball star Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez from The Sandlot.
18. Among his dozens of investments, Travis co-owns Ohio-brewed Garage Beer with Jason.
Travis mentioned in a June statement that it’s common knowledge he enjoys having a few beers occasionally. He’s thrilled to be the owner of Garage Beer and deeply engaged in crafting top-notch light beer. There’s nothing more effective at fostering camaraderie than an ice-cold brew, and for Travis and Jason, that’s what beer represents—friendship, family, and good times.
19. We’re sensing a theme when it comes to Travis’ guilty pleasure TV choices.
Previously, the popular series was known as “Gossip Girl”. Speaking on “New Heights”, he expressed his admiration by saying, “It’s simply fantastic,”. He likened it to a New York high school drama filled with plenty of intrigue and essentially everyone sharing secrets about each other.
His new favorite show? Peacock’s Emmy-winning backstab-a-ganza The Traitors.
20. As he enters his 12th season in the NFL at the age of 35, Travis has become increasingly candid about the physical strain that the sport imposes on the body.
However, from the start, he’s endured numerous setbacks, beginning with a microfracture in his knee during his rookie season which necessitated the initial surgery out of the ten procedures he’s undergone throughout his professional career.
21. Travis openly shared an anecdote on the radio show “New Heights,” discussing his unsuccessful endeavor to gift Taylor Swift a friendship bracelet bearing his phone number during her stop at Kansas City for the Eras Tour.
After learning from mutual acquaintances that he wished to meet her, she reached out to him directly.
He said, “She clearly explained the situation to me,” he shared with WSJ. Magazine, “and it turned out I was fortunate enough for her to contact me.
22. Ever since I can remember, there’s nothing quite like sinking my teeth into a stack of Travis’ beloved French toast smothered in whipped cream and drizzled with syrups – pure heaven!
But more recently he’s become a fan of his girlfriend’s homemade Pop-Tarts and cinnamon rolls.
23. One of Travis’ phone tones features Chris Farley exclaiming “Goodness gracious me!” from the movie ‘Tommy Boy’.
He shared with WSJ. The Magazine that he had introduced his love for the comedy of Farley, Adam Sandler, and Will Ferrell to his girlfriend, saying, “I made it clear: This is what I’m into.
24. Following their AFC Championship victory against the Bengals in 2019, Travis sparked the Kansas City Chiefs to play the Beastie Boys song “Fight for Your Right to Party” after each home game touchdown at Arrowhead Stadium, having shouted “You’ve got to fight for your right to party!”
Or more casually:
24. After their 2019 AFC Championship win over the Bengals, Travis motivated the Chiefs to blast “Fight for Your Right to Party” by Beastie Boys every time they scored a touchdown at home, yelling “You’ve got to fight for your right to party!
2020 saw Brett Veach, the Chiefs general manager, describe Travis Kelce to ESPN as “almost like a multiplier for energy”. It’s challenging to put into numbers just how vital that is. He possesses a unique blend of character, charm, and enthusiasm that draws people in. In our team, everyone seems to be friends with Travis Kelce. He’s not only a booster for morale, focus, and attention but also manages to keep things fun throughout the day.
However, the exuberant individual who introduced this song into their lives confessed that he wasn’t familiar with all the lyrics until he was asked to perform it alongside Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show in February 2023.
Regarding his preferred tunes, by May 2024, Travis mentioned that his top three songs from Taylor were “Blank Space”, “The Alchemy”, and “So High School”.
Back in September, I inquired about it, but his response was quite different then. He said, “Each and every one of them is my absolute favorite!” as an obsessed fan.
As I reflect on the football field, I often draw comparisons to the esteemed Travis Kelce and the legendary Tony Gonzalez, who hung up his cleats in 2013 following a remarkable 17-season career. However, it’s important to note that while there are similarities, Travis carves out his own niche in the league.
In 2015, as discussions intensified about whether he might outperform Tony’s accomplishments and the potential letdown if he fell short, Travis chose to disregard the commotion.
In his conversation with Complex, he expressed that the highest demands are self-imposed. He aspires to achieve the most outstanding statistical season of any tight end in history.
September 29th marked a significant milestone for Travis, as he took the lead from Tony as the Kansas City Chiefs’ record holder for career receptions with his 917th catch.
On New Heights, Travis remarked, “It’s remarkable how things often return to where they started.” Standing atop the leaderboard with the Kansas City Chiefs, a team that dates back to the ’60s and is one of the original organizations that have managed to endure and thrive, is quite something. Much of this success can be attributed to their rich history and a man like Tony Gonzalez, who has served as a mentor for me. I hold him in high esteem.
27. Of Travis’ many accomplishments, keeping his house in order on his own isn’t one of them.
“He can’t clean,” mom Donna Kelce told Extra in September. “He can’t cook.”
Maybe, having someone special visiting has given you an additional reason to tidy up and organize your place.
“He’s getting a little better,” Donna acknowledged. “I think he’s getting some help.”
