Kite Man's Matt Oberg Would Love to Reprise Role in James Gunn's DCU (Exclusive)

As a long-time DC fan and avid gamer, I can’t contain my excitement for the upcoming animated series “Kite Man: Hell Yeah!” premiering on Max this week. Having grown up with these characters and immersing myself in their stories for years, the prospect of watching Kite Man (Matt Oberg) embark on a wild journey of love and self-discovery is truly exhilarating.

After a long development process, marked by adjustments to the larger DC Universe, the new animated series “Kite Man: Hell Yeah!” debuts on Max this week. In this show, based on the events of the popular “Harley Quinn” animation, fans’ beloved character Kite Man (Matt Oberg) embarks on a wild adventure of love and self-discovery. DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran hinted that actors from live-action productions might reprise their roles in the new DC Universe. This raises the question of whether more animated characters could join this crossover. During an interview with ComicBook about “Kite Man: Hell Yeah!”s first season, Oberg and executive producer Dean Lorey discussed the potential for the on-screen Kite Man to transition into live-action DC Universe.

“What’s the cost?” Oberg playfully inquired. “What’s the price? I’d be glad to negotiate. No, no, I assure you, I’ll definitely show up. I’ll even be a local employee. I’ll bring my own kite along. Whatever your requirements are, whenever you require it, I’ll be present.”

Lorey reassured, “I’ll bring him water when he needs it. And if he requires sunscreen, I’ve got that covered as well.”

“I don’t require it.”; Oberg added, “I’m good on my own. The suit will provide sufficient protection from the sun, even if I get sunburnt.”

What Is Kite Man: Hell Yeah! About?

In “Kite Man: Hell Yeah!”, I, as Kite Man, team up with Golden Glider to run a bar near Lex Luthor’s Legion of Doom’s base. We knew it wouldn’t be simple serving drinks to the most notorious baddies outside Arkham Asylum, but there are moments when you just want that familiar hangout and some hidden corners for, let’s say, confidential matters.

As a gamer, I’d say: Not only does Oberg make up the roster of “Kite Man: Hell Yeah!”, but the game also boasts an impressive lineup of talented voices. Stephanie Hsu brings Golden Glider to life, James Adomian gives us Bane, Natasia Demetriou creates Malice, Janelle James voices Queen of Fables, and Jonathan Banks portrays Noonan. Additionally, Keith David lends his voice to Darkseid, Michael Imperioli plays Joe/Moe Dubelz, Rory Scovel voices Gus the Goon, Lance Reddick becomes Lex Luthor, and Judith Light takes on the role of Helen Villigan.

The show “Kite Man: Hell Yeah!” by Max will be released for the first time on Thursday, July 18th, and new episodes will then become available each Thursday.
