Knull Returns: Marvel’s Most Feared Villain Targets Venom in Epic Comeback!

Marvel Universe’s Earth-616 marks a special day today, June 16th, known as 616 Day! In honor of this occasion, Marvel Comics is releasing exciting news – a notorious and iconic supervillain is set to return from the dead, with Venom possibly in his sights. To celebrate, Marvel is offering retailer packages filled with exclusive goodies like 616 Day Variant Covers and Fantastic Four pins. Moreover, an intriguing Marvel Comics announcement was teased for 6:16 p.m. ET, and now it’s here! The hinted artwork appears linked to Venom, specifically his 250th issue as the Lethal Protector.

In October, the 250th issue of “Venom” will bring back Knull, the original King in Black. This epic story is penned by Al Ewing, the current writer for “All-New Venom,” and beautifully illustrated by Terry Dodson. The narrative commences with “Venom” #250 as it initiates a significant symbiote tale. Here, Knull, the deity of symbiotes, aims to retaliate against Venom, who is currently connected to Mary Jane Watson. Knull was first introduced during Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman’s tenure on “Venom” in 2018, swiftly ascending among Marvel’s most renowned villains. He was the primary adversary in the “King in Black” event series and made his cinematic debut in the 2020 film “Venom: The Last Dance.

In issue #250 of the colossal “Venom” comic book series, readers can expect a story penned by the writer of “Eddie Brock: Carnage,” Charles Soule, and illustrated by Carlos Gomez from “All-New Venom.” This tale takes place during Eddie Brock’s tenure as Venom. After this issue concludes, the series reverts to its original title, “Venom,” with issue #251 continuing the comic’s legacy.

In their creation of Knull, Donny and Ryan introduced an intriguing new adversary who exudes the essence of a formidable antagonist – often referred to as ‘major bad guy qualities’. Knull is strikingly imposing, his intentions are clear in just one sentence, he’s unyielding, potent enough to dominate a crossover event, and he was given the opportunity for a brief hiatus. Ewing expressed that Knull’s appeal lies in this: when powerful villains are allowed to rest and fade into recollection, it is the fond memories of their appealing traits that linger – and such moments mark the perfect time for a grand return. The essence of a great villain, according to Ewing, is not about defeat but endurance; they may be momentarily down, yet they are never truly out.
