As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I must say that 2024 was a rollercoaster year in the world of gaming, particularly for Kojima Productions. The anticipation for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has been palpable, and it’s heartening to see updates and progress from the mastermind himself, Hideo Kojima.
However, the challenges faced by OD and Physint have certainly put a damper on things. The SAG strike seems to have thrown a wrench in the works, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they’ll be able to resume production this year. The absence of OD at The Game Awards was definitely noticed, especially since it was revealed there last year.
But fear not, fellow gamers! While we may not have a release date or gameplay for these titles yet, the promise of new details is enough to keep us on our toes. And let’s be real, isn’t that half the fun? We’re all in this gaming journey together, after all.
In a more personal note, I can’t help but marvel at Kojima’s dedication and perseverance. Working through development, ADR for actors, music production, recording, Japanese voice recording, and then actually playing and building the game – it’s a Herculean task! But if anyone can do it, it’s Kojima Productions.
And on a lighter note, I can’t help but wonder: Will Death Stranding 2 come with its own pair of Wanderer’s Legs? Because we all know that walking in the post-apocalyptic world isn’t easy!
2024 was filled with numerous thrilling happenings, notably the continuous updates and fresh information about Kojima Productions’ “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach”. Director Hideo Kojima reflected on these milestones in a tweet posted on New Year’s Eve, mentioning their Tokyo Game Show stage appearance as well (their first in five years).
Additionally, he disclosed challenges for the upcoming Xbox-exclusive horror game, OD, and the PlayStation-exclusive stealth action title, Physint. “For OD, we created the game with actor and environment scanning. In the latter part of the year, scanning and filming were halted because of the SAG strike. Meanwhile, casting for Physint was also paused due to the same strike.
Kojima plans to restart work on both projects this year, but this could account for OD’s absence at The Game Awards, considering it was unveiled at the 2023 event. Neither game has a release date or demo, so substantial reveals might still be quite some time away.
In 202X, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is set to release on PlayStation 5. The specific launch date remains undisclosed at this time. Interestingly, even though Sony Interactive Entertainment is handling the console publication, Kojima Productions has claimed ownership of the intellectual property since November 2024. Stay tuned for more updates about the sequel and its anticipated features.
2024, what a fantastic journey it’s been! From refining DS2, unveiling our second captivating trailer, coordinating actor dialogues, crafting and recording music, and even capturing Japanese voiceovers – each step brought us closer to the dream. As the summer rolled in, we finally got to immerse ourselves deeply into the gameplay and lay its foundation. And let me tell you, it was a privilege to be part of this incredible process!
