As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I can confidently say that the prospect of seeing Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots grace modern platforms is like finding a long-lost treasure map – albeit one with a notoriously vague X marking the spot. The tantalizing hints from Konami have kept us, the faithful Metal Gear fans, on the edge of our seats for far too long.
For enthusiasts of the Metal Gear series, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is undeniably an exciting prospect following a lengthy break in releases. However, curiosity about future projects never truly subsides. A prime example is the long-awaited arrival of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots on contemporary systems – or at least, any system other than the PS3, which was its initial launch platform back in 2008. Interestingly, Konami hints that this wait may not last much longer.
During an interview with IGN, Konami producer Noriaki Okamura hinted strongly that a second installment of the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection might feature Metal Gear Solid 4 as part of its lineup.
“Regarding the matter concerning MGS4, as Okamura stated, we’re definitely in the loop about it. However, due to the ongoing project with Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 that includes MGS 1-3, we can’t share much information at this time. But if you follow along, I think you’ll be able to make some educated guesses!”
Currently, we’re deeply pondering our next steps for the future of this series. Unfortunately, I can’t share any details yet, but rest assured, we’ll keep you updated! Keep an eye on things!
It’s not a new notion that MGS4 might be incorporated into a prospective Vol. 2. Back in June last year, rumors emerged stating its inclusion in the upcoming Metal Gear compilation, alongside The Phantom Pain and Peace Walker. These claims were further supported by data mining leaks of Vol. 1 towards the end of the year.
In an earlier discussion this year, Noriaki mentioned that the details of the upcoming ‘Master Collection’ release were still undecided. He kindly requested everyone to exercise a bit more patience for further updates. You can read more about it here.
Currently, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is being crafted for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and personal computers. At the moment, no specific launch date or timeframe has been disclosed; however, it’s anticipated that this information will be unveiled later in 2021.
