As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share the news that Konami seems to be reviving a series that has been absent from the gaming scene since the PS3 and Xbox 360 era, at least in its video game format. After a prolonged hiatus, Konami appears to be making a comeback in the realm of video games. Last year, they stunned us with the exceptional Silent Hill 2 Remake, collaborating with the Polish studio Bloober Team. This year, in August, they are set to deliver another masterpiece – a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3, titled Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. Interestingly, this remake is being developed internally.
Based on recent news, Konami intends to delve once more into their classic collection, focusing this time on Castlevania. It’s worth mentioning that back in 2021, VGC hinted at a new take on Castlevania being developed by the Chinese studio Virtuous Studios. This studio is renowned as one of the largest AAA studios globally, but it primarily operates in a supporting capacity. Interestingly, this same studio has been making headlines recently due to its role in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, which was launched earlier this year.
In 2021, there were reports suggesting a new take on Castlevania, along with Metal Gear Solid 3 and Silent Hill 2 projects, were under development. It was stated that the Castlevania game would be released first. However, as we know now, none of these games came out in the order announced, leading some enthusiasts to question if the Castlevania project had been canceled. Lately, fans have been curious whether this project is still ongoing.
In response to your questions and for further clarification, Andy Robinson from VGC has mentioned that, based on what he’s been informed, the project is still in progress. However, this is all we currently know as there are no additional updates available at this time.
Indeed, Castlevania enthusiasts are all too aware that it’s been quite some time since a new Castlevania game has graced our screens; Konami and MercuryStream collaboratively launched the less-than-successful Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 back in 2014.
Absolutely, Robinson is a reliable resource, but much of the information from the 2021 report has already materialized as predicted – so keep in mind to approach this with a bit of skepticism.
