After welcoming our son Rocky into the world with Travis Barker in November, I made a conscious decision to embrace attachment parenting as our preferred approach to raising him. This method focuses on the importance of physical connection between mother and infant, involving practices such as extended breastfeeding and co-sleeping. In order to foster this bond, I dedicated my time to staying at home with Rocky for the first 40 days of his life.
In various cultures around the world, new mothers abstain from leaving their homes for a period of 40 days after giving birth to allow their bodies time to recover. Additionally, I strongly embrace the attachment parenting approach, which means I prefer to keep my baby close to me rather than separating from him.
I take pride in crafting a serene sanctuary at home for my baby and me. Forty-five years old and counting, I’m wholly invested in nurturing and strengthening our connection.
Kourtney, mother of Mason (14), Penelope (11), and Reign (9) from her past relationship with Scott Disick, is taking her time before attempting to shed the extra pounds she put on while pregnant with their youngest child, Rocky.
She acknowledged in a private reflection, “I no longer prioritize quickly returning my body to its former shape as I once did after giving birth to Mason.” Previously, the topic of swift postpartum recovery was a significant conversation point for her.
Instead of putting pressure on myself to follow a specific diet, Kourtney explained that her priority now is to fuel my body with optimal nutrients for the sake of maintaining a healthy milk supply.
“I care to get back,” she added at the time, “but I’m breastfeeding so I’m taking my time.”
As a devoted advocate of attachment parenting, I can’t help but identify with Kourtney’s approach. During Penelopé and Reign’s tender infancy, this philosophy guided me just as it did her.
In an interview with Vogue in October 2023, the Poosh founder shared that we hadn’t stepped outside our house for a total of 40 days. Following this period, she expressed her delight in being highly connected instead.
