As a long-time follower of the gaming industry and a passionate fan of Tango Gameworks’ unique titles, I must say that the recent acquisition of Tango by Krafton has left me utterly speechless! After the heartbreaking closure of Tango and the seemingly imminent demise of Hi-Fi Rush, I had all but given up hope for any future installments in this brilliant franchise. Yet here we are, with a new lease on life for both Tango and Hi-Fi Rush, thanks to Krafton’s strategic move.
In an unexpected turn of events, developer Tango Gameworks and its popular title Hi-Fi Rush have been acquired by Krafton, best known for the battle royale game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG). Earlier this year, Microsoft made a controversial decision to shut down Tango Gameworks, effectively ending any further development of Hi-Fi Rush which was released in 2023 to wide praise. Instead of permanently closing the studio, Microsoft has decided to sell it to Krafton, where they will now focus on expanding the Hi-Fi Rush franchise.
According to a recent statement, Krafton has bought Tango from both Microsoft and ZeniMax Media’s parent company. This acquisition also includes the rights to the game Hi-Fi Rush, which Krafton plans to develop further through upcoming projects. Meanwhile, it appears that The Evil Within and Ghostwire: Tokyo franchises will continue under Microsoft’s ownership.
Today, Krafton Inc is delighted to bring on board the skilled team from Tango Gameworks, marking a significant milestone in their global growth and their first major investment in Japan’s video game industry. This strategic move grants Krafton ownership of Tango Gameworks’ popular IP, Hi-Fi Rush.
It’s quite remarkable that Krafton has chosen to reanimate Tango Gameworks; this move appears unexpected given that many believed Tango had ceased to exist when its final day of operation was announced a few months ago. However, here we are with Tango back in action and promising Hi-Fi Rush, which is fantastic news for fans who have been eagerly awaiting a sequel to Hi-Fi Rush. Whether or not a follow-up to the original Hi-Fi Rush will materialize soon remains to be seen, but we’ll likely find out more about this in the coming weeks and months.
