Essentially, Sony’s Marvel universe, centered around their characters, has reached an end as they are now focusing on different paths for their Marvel movies. The Venom series managed to maintain its success throughout three installments, but none of the standalone Spider-Man related films that followed could match its popularity. Regrettably, due to these underperforming titles, some exciting crossover events that were planned within the franchise never came to fruition.
It seems one of the significant collaborative instances could have been the finale of Sony’s Marvel trials: _Kraven the Hunter_. Recently, concept artist Jules Darriulat shared on Instagram some sketches for an unrealized scene in _Kraven_, which included none other than Venom. Check it out!
This is a backdrop created for a scrapped scene from Kraven the Hunter, it was a blast collaborating with Framestone’s artistic team on it.
As a film enthusiast, I can tell you that this intriguing artwork seems to depict a fallen Symbiote, possibly serving as a backdrop for the upcoming “Kraven the Hunter” movie. This label as an “environment shot” suggests it might not feature Venom as a central character in the film. Instead, it could be part of a montage or post-credits scene, subtly hinting at the expansive Sony/Marvel universe that lies ahead.
In my recent review of “Venom: The Last Dance,” I noted the intriguing introduction of Knull, the cosmic deity of Symbiotes, as a formidable entity with universal influence. The character’s backstory hinted at a larger role and even speculation about a standalone film, suggesting that the upcoming “Kraven” could serve as a stepping stone for further exploration of Knull’s epic narrative within the Sony Cinematic Universe.
It seems that the concept you’re referring to wasn’t included in the actual filming of ‘Kraven the Hunter’, as all we have so far is this concept art to give us a glimpse of what might have been.
Other Kraven the Hunter Changes
Just like with other Sony/Marvel productions, adjustments and modifications during post-production on Kraven the Hunter were evident to those involved in the project.
Actor Alessandro Nivola from the movie “Kraven” revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that one crucial scene was altered in the final version of the film, despite him being told earlier that this particular scene would remain unchanged.
Nivola explained that his performance was completely silent and resembled a mute scream. This act brought laughter on set, though it seemed peculiar to him. Despite its strangeness, everyone appreciated it. We often referred to this moment as the ‘silent scream scene.’
He frequently inquired from director J.C. Chandor during editing if the silent scream was still part of the film. Chandor reassured him that it would remain, stating “Of course we wouldn’t lose the silent scream.” However, when Nivola watched the final movie, it included a throaty vocal catch which he believed might not have been as impactful without it.
