As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled about one of the standout events gracing our screens in May 2025 during the second week – the long-awaited return of Conan O’Brien’s globetrotting series, Conan O’Brien Must Go, in its second season. However, before that exciting premiere, we can honor our favorite redhead by streaming the new special, Conan O’Brien: The Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize For American Humor, which is now available on Netflix with a subscription.

Give it a Thought: The Moment from Conan O’Brien’s Show Makes Me Believe That Conan and Taika Waititi Could Make an Outstanding Film Collaboration
I’ve been pondering… The moment in Conan O’Brien’s show has led me to think that a film collaboration between Conan and Taika Waititi could be extraordinary.
The special is unquestionably comedic throughout, largely due to numerous humorous jabs from some of the Oscar host’s most amusing associates, long-term coworkers, and frequent late-night guests. Ranging from John Mulaney and Andy Richter to Adam Sandler and David Letterman, everyone delivered top-notch performances, and this was particularly evident with Kumail Nanjiani, whose “TWAINTalk” tackled the intriguing question of whether O’Brien truly deserves the award, featuring The Simpsons as a significant element.
In discussing the measure of a comedian’s global impact through their influence, Nanjiani brought up Conan O’Brien’s notable career milestone – his time spent on “The Simpsons.
Currently, Conan was a member of the writing team for one of television’s most iconic and prosperous series, The Simpsons. Frequently, conversations revolve around Conan’s impact on The Simpsons. Intriguingly, his name is mentioned in approximately 93% of discussions about Simpsons writers online. However, let’s examine the reality of his contribution. Given that The Simpsons boasts a total of 781 episodes, Conan penned only three.
It’s uncertain if the “93%” figure was derived from data or simply made up, but there’s no denying the authenticity of O’Brien’s role on The Simpsons. Although he was indeed a member of the early writing team and undoubtedly provided jokes and plot ideas for other episodes, the restrictive nature of TV writing credits means that just three episodes from that legendary period can undeniably verify his presence there.

He made a funny and extraordinary comparison to highlight the small amount of effort Conan put into The Simpsons.
Compared to Charles Manson, who contributed 0.41% of The Beach Boys’ songs, you’re looking at just 0.38% from your subject. In other words, when it comes to the music of The Beach Boys, Charles Manson had a slightly larger influence than Conan does with The Simpsons.
In many different ways, the statement you heard during this special was as extraordinary as anything either Conan O’Brien or Charles Manson might have said or done. Although they collaborated on Saturday Night Live and acted together, with Bob Odenkirk portraying Manson in The Ben Stiller Show, it’s important to note that such a comparison is not straightforward.
When Kumail Nanjiani was recalling the episodes he wrote, he elicited a noticeable chuckle from the recipient, jokingly commenting:
Oh, by the way, Conan penned not one but three Simpsons episodes. Two of them were titled ‘Marge vs. the Monorail’, and the remaining one has a different title.
The remaining part of Nanjiani’s appearance was undeniably humorous too, as it playfully criticized the traditional late-night format. In fact, the star of Silicon Valley recounted Masturbating Bear being his initial exposure not just to Late Night, but to American television in general. Somehow, he persevered and didn’t rush back to his roots in Pakistan.
