Lady Gaga Bomb Plot Foiled: Police Thwart Attack at Record-Breaking Brazil Concert

Authorities stopped a horrific tragedy from occurring at Lady Gaga’s recent concert.

On May 4th, Brazilian authorities announced that two individuals were taken into custody after an alleged bomb scare, known as “Operation Fake Monster,” at the free concert of the singer Abracadabra on Copacabana Beach in Rio De Janeiro on May 3rd. This event broke records with a staggering 2.5 million attendees.

The strategy for ‘Operation Fake Monster’ was developed following an investigation by the Rio de Janeiro Civil Police. This probe revealed that the perpetrators were enlisting individuals, even minors, to execute coordinated assaults involving homemade explosives and Molotov cocktails. (Translated from Portuguese)

In their official statement, the police reported that an individual, suspected as the mastermind behind the scheme, was apprehended for unlawful firearm ownership in Rio Grande do Sul, a city approximately 924 miles away from the concert venue. Additionally, another juvenile, said to be linked to the plan, was detained for possession of illegal child pornography in Rio de Janeiro, according to police reports.

The institutions collaborated to stop a group who were spreading harmful speech and planning actions, particularly targeting children, teens, and individuals from the LGBTQIA+ community. The operation focused on these individuals who were active online, encouraging extremism in teenagers, sharing hateful content, promoting self-harm, pedophilia, and violent material as a means of bonding and provoking challenges among young people.

15 more search warrants were granted by Brazilian authorities as they continue their investigations on the bomb threat that was first reported by the Brazilian Intelligence Agency. Further examination is being conducted by Ciberlab, a division of the Directorate of Integrated Operations and Intelligence (Diopi) of the National Secretariat of Public Security (Senasp) under the MPSP.
