Lance Bass Shares Surprising Doubts About Relationship with Michael Turchin

The first time Lance Bass met his current husband, Michael Turchin, he hadn’t realized that it would be him.

At his friend’s birthday party in Palm Springs, California in 2011, the *NSYNC singer confessed to TopMob News’ Francesca Amiker that he initially thought they didn’t get along. Unlike his past relationships, he explained, this one didn’t grow from a friendship. Instead, it was an instant, powerful connection.

Not to say the 45-year-old wasn’t attracted to the Miami-bred visual artist and actor.

In essence, Bass confided that he had feelings for the Georgetown University alumnus, who is 38 years old. However, he felt that his affection wasn’t reciprocated.

At the mentioned point in time, a native of Mississippi shared that he had recently relocated to New York City. “During those initial months, we communicated frequently over the phone, deeply getting acquainted with one another,” he suggested, emphasizing that long-distance relationships at the start can be beneficial since it allows you to understand your partner exceptionally well.

Still, it ain’t no lie to say that Bass considered telling Turchin bye, bye, bye.

In the early stages of their budding friendship, the musician often thought to himself, “This won’t succeed. He’s too young for me. We live on opposite coasts,” but surprisingly enough, it proved to be successful despite his initial doubts and reservations.

He credits the switch up to one key play.

That year, Turchin enthusiastically joined everyone at the Super Bowl in Texas, blending effortlessly into the group as if we were all old friends. This immersion in the event truly captivated him.

In Bass’s own words, “The Super Bowl served as our initial outing together,” he shared. “Perhaps it wasn’t intended to be a date, but we both thought it was. However, once we were comfortably seated on the couch, aided by one or two glasses of wine, it undeniably had a romantic atmosphere.

In simpler terms, Bass explained, “He suddenly moved closer and kissed me. I was taken aback and said something like, ‘Wow, hold on, does he really like me.’ So, yes, everything became clear afterwards.” Thus, the moment was decisive.

For those intrigued by the details, Bass stated that he recognized Turchin’s significant action instantly. He described it as an exceptional kiss, and in his opinion, they haven’t spent many days apart since then.

In late 2013, Bass put forth a proposal, and exactly one year later, he presented a dazzling black diamond ring.

By December 20, 2014, I was standing at the altar in a grand wedding planned by Sharon Sacks, surrounded by 300 guests, including my bandmates JC Chasez, Joey Fatone, and Chris Kirkpatrick, as well as Lisa Vanderpump from “Vanderpump Rules.” The dress code for this special day was inspired by a royal wedding at the Met Ball.

The ceremony, overseen by their dear friends JoAnna Garcia Swisher and Jamie-Lynn Sigler, was filmed by TopMob cameras for the TV special “Lance Loves Michael: The Lance Bass Wedding”.

And more than a decade on, Bass does still very much love Turchin.

In Bass’s own words, he expressed that their relationship has transitioned into something more akin to a shared partnership. He feels fortunate to have found such a companion who is an integral part of his life. However, their bond extends far beyond mere affection.

In October 2021, twin babies Violet and Alexander were born with a surrogate’s assistance. Bass playfully remarked, “It’s like they’re trapped with me now, I can’t escape!” He continued, “We need to navigate through the highs and lows of life together. Having someone who will be there for you unconditionally brings comfort, knowing that you’ll always have a partner to experience life with.

A few someones, really.

As they transition from a duo to a family of four, Bass and Turchin continue to bring out the best (and sometimes the worst) in each other in their unique way.

Bass emphatically stated, “Having children increases your love for your partner exponentially. It’s a unique kind of love, not just for the kids, but for your partner as well. Witnessing his exceptional care and interaction with the children only deepens that love even further.

Just like Bass, Turchin is undeniably a talented vocalist, as affirmed by his partner. Therefore, their California residence resonates with harmonious tunes on a daily basis.

At present, his children are particularly fond of Broadway musicals, so a significant portion of their days is filled with tunes from shows like “Wicked”. In fact, before he can even fasten his seat belt while driving them to school, they are already asking for “the shimmy, shimmy song”, which is what they call the “You Can’t Stop the Beat” number from “Hairspray”.

Regarding his son Alexander, who seems to love pushing buttons and causing mischief, and his daughter Violet, whom he adores, Bass shared that their family constantly seeks activities that amuse them and bring laughter into their lives, which helps keep their spirits high.

Saturday date nights are a key part of the puzzle as well.

In Bass’s words, it’s crucial to prioritize spending time with your partner. They set aside a weekly date, even if they need to hire a babysitter and make arrangements, to ensure they have quality time together. This helps strengthen their bond as everyday life often separates them due to childcare duties and illnesses. On most days, things might not be romantic, but this dedicated day allows them to reconnect, gaze into each other’s eyes, and express love.

They do a good job of showing that love as well.

Last year, after an initial misdiagnosis that led to a type 2 diabetes diagnosis, which later turned out to be type 1.5 diabetes for Bass, Turchin has been nothing short of remarkable, according to Bass. “Being diabetic is like having a full-time job,” Bass said enthusiastically about his partner. “There’s always the need to remember various steps such as: ‘Did I take my insulin before leaving the house? Is it refrigerated properly? Do I have enough needles? Did I take my insulin 15 minutes before consuming 15 grams of carbs?’

Despite Bass having a poor memory, he emphasized that Turchin is extraordinarily skilled at assisting him in keeping everything organized.

If the Dexcom G7 device belonging to Bass sounds an alarm at 3 a.m., signaling his blood sugar levels have dropped dangerously low, “He promptly springs into action, grabbing some orange juice for me,” Bass explained. “In case of a diabetic emergency, he has the necessary medication on hand. He knows exactly how to respond in such situations. In essence, he functions as my unofficial caregiver, and it’s reassuring.

Moreover, it’s not unexpected that he pays equal attention to his children too. Despite Bass occasionally teasing Turchin about being the soft one and him being the tough one, he admitted affectionately, “I must say, it’s quite endearing to see him evolve into a loving father.

In terms of growing their family, Bass confessed, “I’d consider establishing an orphanage myself. I yearn for a large family and aim to provide homes for numerous children who need one.

But he could be convinced to stop at just four.

Admitting that I’m still trying to persuade him, we’re considering expanding our family. Whether through having children of our own or adopting, the future looks intriguing over the next decade as I follow where my life takes me.

Regardless of whether they greet multiple children or not, Bass expressed that he is simply thrilled to witness their future development, stating, “I’m just curious to see who they grow into.” He further explained, “I’m simply aiming to nurture kind and decent kids as a means to counteract the chaos in today’s world.

With a deliberate effort to reduce my professional obligations, I’ve been making space in my schedule to cherish each fleeting moment before my little ones embark on their kindergarten journey. In essence, I’m seizing every precious second I can grab hold of until they start venturing out more frequently and leaving me behind.

For now, he added, “It’s just cute to see their personalities grow and grow.”
