In a thrilling turn of events for Taylor Sheridan’s series “Landman,” a well-known actor from a spinoff of the popular show “Yellowstone” has been added to the cast, but the real buzz is about a newcomer who starred in one of the greatest Western films ever made. The first season of “Landman” was a massive success on Paramount+, leaving many fans of Taylor Sheridan eagerly anticipating the return for season 2. With Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, Michelle Randolph, and more already attached to the project, it’s already shaping up to be something special. But recent casting news has made the upcoming second season even more enticing than before!
We’ve learned quite a bit about the cast for the second season of “Landman.” For instance, Demi Moore is set to play a more significant role in the upcoming season, as her character, Cami Miller, assumes control following Monty’s (Jon Hamm) demise at the end of season 1. Additionally, Tommy might find himself with new tasks as the de facto leader of M-Tex, and Andy Garcia’s Gallino will bring fresh dynamics to the storyline. Moreover, Taylor Sheridan has also recruited a star from a “Yellowstone” spinoff series for season 2: Sam Elliott.
Sam Elliott Will Appear In Landman Season 2
Elliott’s Character Hasn’t Been Revealed Yet, But He Will Be A Series Regular
In the upcoming season 2 of “Landman”, it has been confirmed that Sam Elliott will be joining the series. At this point, the specific character he’ll portray and how his role fits into the broader storyline are still undisclosed. However, what we do know is that Elliott will be a regular cast member for the show.
Known for his iconic roles in numerous classic films such as Westerns, “Roadhouse”, the 2003 version of “Hulk”, and even the 2018 remake of “A Star is Born”, Elliott’s addition to the cast adds an extra layer of stardom to the already renowned cast of “Landman”. Two particular roles in the show are particularly intriguing with his involvement.
Landman Brings Sam Elliott Together With Billy Bob Thornton Over 30 Years After Tombstone
Elliott & Thornton First Appeared Together In Tombstone In 1993
Back in 1993, I had the pleasure of sharing the screen with both Sam Elliott and Billy Bob Thornton in the Western masterpiece “Tombstone”. In this iconic film, Sam portrayed Virgil Earp, Wyatt’s older brother, while Billy played a minor role as Johnny Tyler. Interestingly, we had a brief on-screen encounter too: after Johnny was thrown out of a bar by Wyatt at the start of the movie, he faced further humiliation when both Virgil and the rest of the Earp party joined in on it.
Thirty-odd years since their initial collaboration, Sam Elliott and Billy Bob Thornton are joining forces once more in “Landman” season 2. Notably, while “Landman” isn’t a conventional Western, it carries a strong influence from Taylor Sheridan’s affinity for the Western genre, making it somewhat reminiscent of “Tombstone”. In contrast to their supporting roles in “Tombstone”, both Elliott and Thornton will have significant screen time together in “Landman”. Essentially, “Landman” season 2 offers a reunion akin to “Tombstone”, but it’s not the first meeting of Elliott and Thornton on-screen.
The Yellowstone Franchise Is Another Great Sign For Elliott’s Landman Casting
Thornton Had A Brief Appearance In 1883, Which Saw Him Interact With Elliott’s Shea
Previously mentioned is that Sam Elliott has appeared in another show by Taylor Sheridan: 1883. What’s not as commonly known is that Billy Bob Thornton also made an appearance in the same series, and his character even had a brief interaction with Elliott’s. In 1883, Thornton played Marshal Jim Courtright, and he crossed paths with Sam Elliott’s Shea Brennan as the wagon train that Thornton was leading passed through town. Thornton’s role in 1883 was limited to one of its ten episodes, so their encounter was brief, as it had been in Tombstone.
1883 demonstrated the strong on-screen connection between Sam Elliott and Billy Bob Thornton, a partnership that seems promising for their future roles together. If Elliott’s character in Landman season 2 is an ally or foe of Tommy, their dynamic promises to be intriguing. Given their past experiences working together, Elliott should have no trouble getting into Tommy’s head, making Landman season 2 all the more exciting as we look forward to his addition to the cast.
