Lanterns: Damon Lindelof Hypes His Involvement With DC Studios Series

As a seasoned gamer and a die-hard DC fan who has journeyed through countless virtual worlds and parallel universes, I can confidently say that the news of the upcoming Green Lantern series, titled “Lanterns,” has sent my heart racing! The combination of Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King at the helm is nothing short of a masterstroke.

The traditional state of the DC Universe is about to undergo significant changes with James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Studios orchestrating numerous films and TV shows. The initial live-action series set to join this lineup is “Lanterns,” a Green Lantern series helmed by Chris Mundy (known for “Ozark” and “True Detective: Night Country”). This series will be jointly written by Mundy, Damon Lindelof (famous for “Watchmen” and “The Leftovers”), and comic writer Tom King. On Wednesday, Lindelof shared a photo on Instagram from his first San Diego Comic-Con for the pilot episode of “Lost,” where he was sporting a Green Lantern t-shirt. In the caption, he humorously mentions that Gunn and DC have provided him with a time machine to go back in time and promote his current work on “Lanterns.”

In Lindelof’s words, “Twenty years ago, I was The Con. It was the first screening of the LOST pilot. It was my first time on stage instead of in the audience. It was the first time someone asked me to sign something other than a credit card receipt. Thanks for this photo, @theericgoldman… and thanks DC and @jamesgunn for letting me borrow the Time Machine so I could have my past self promote a future show.”

What Is Lanterns About?

Title characters Hal Jordan, the esteemed Lantern, and newcomer John Stewart, both space-faring peacekeepers, become entangled in a grim, small-town enigma on Earth while probing a murder case in the heartland of America. At present, the actors to portray these iconic figures have not been decided.

“Chris Mundy and Damon Lindelof are thrilled to be rejoining forces with Tom on the revamped ‘Green Lantern’ project for HBO and Max Content. As per James and Peter’s plan for the DC Universe, this live-action series will kick off a new exciting phase.” – Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO, HBO and Max Content.

“We’re excited to introduce this significant DC comic book series on HBO, led by Chris, Damon, and Tom. In a unique detective tale, Green Lantern characters John Stewart and Hal Jordan will be brought to life. These two iconic DC figures have captivating personalities, and ‘Green Lanterns’ forms the cornerstone of the interconnected DC Universe we plan to debut next summer alongside ‘Superman.'”

What Is On the DC Universe Slate?

According to Gunn and Safran in January 2023, the DC Studios’ upcoming lineup features Superman (releasing in 2025), Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (2026), as well as The Brave and the Bold, Swamp Thing, and The Authority (dates yet to be announced). This slate will also encompass HBO Max television shows like Waller, Booster Gold, Lanterns, Paradise Lost, and an animated Creature Commandos series.

Rumors circulate that DC Studios is planning to create two films: one live-action for “Teen Titans,” another animation titled “Jurassic League.” However, it’s important to note that these projects have not yet been officially announced.
