In the excitement of DC commencing production on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, another eagerly awaited project is finalizing its cast with a pivotal character. According to Deadline, Ulrich Thomsen (Counterpart, The Blacklist) has been selected as the renowned villain Sinestro in DC’s Green Lantern television series titled Lanterns, joining an already impressive ensemble.
In this production, Kyle Chandler portrays Hal Jordan, Aaron Pierre takes on John Stewart, Kelly MacDonald plays Sheriff Kerry, Garret Dillahunt is William Macon, and Poorna Jagannathan assumes the role of Zoe. It’s possible that Dillahunt might embody the character Black Hand, but with Sinestro entering the scene, the most iconic Green Lantern adversary steps into the conflict.
Sinestro once served as a Green Lantern, but later switched to becoming a villain, though not in the typical fashion. Initially hailed as one of the most exceptional Lanterns, he was ultimately unmasked as a tyrant by his new recruit, Hal Jordan.
Experiencing a significant transformation, Sinestro tapped into the power of fear and rose to become a formidable wielder of the yellow power ring. He then established an entire force known as the Fear Corps, complete with its unique Power Battery. Throughout his history, he has repeatedly tested Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps to their breaking point. Having Sinestro as a character in the show significantly amplifies the tension by increasing the stakes by a factor of ten.
Thomsen is well-recognized for an array of successful productions such as NBC’s hit show The Blacklist and Cinemax’s Banshee where he played Kai Proctor. He has also made appearances in the Scandinavian series Trom, Starz’ Counterpart, HBO’s The Young Pope, and will soon be seen in Uwe Boll’s film Run alongside Amanda Plummer.
In simple terms, Chris Mundy serves as the head of the TV show titled “Lanterns.” Additionally, Tom King and Damon Lindelof are jointly writing and overseeing the series as executive producers. James Hawes is also an executive producer and plans to direct the first two episodes of the show. The premiere date for “Lanterns” has been set for 2026, but a specific release date within that year hasn’t been disclosed yet.
