Fans of the Resident Evil series have just under 48 hours left to secure a 2022 release before it disappears for good. Lately, the franchise has witnessed a resurgence, starting with Resident Evil 7 and followed by remakes of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, Resident Evil Village, and Resident Evil 4 in that sequence. The trend seems set to continue with Resident Evil 9 and another remake, but the specifics about this upcoming release are still unknown. According to whispers, it could be any one of Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil Zero, or Resident Evil – Code: Veronica. Not only is Resident Evil doing well, but Capcom as a whole has been thriving too. Besides Resident Evil, their Monster Hunter and other intellectual properties have also been successful. However, there have been a few missteps during this period of success.
One often overlooked disappointment is the game Resident Evil Re:Verse, despite the numerous successful Resident Evil games that precede it. However, its failure is clear not only due to low player numbers, but also because of its unfavorable ratings from both users and critics.
By June 29 of this year, the Resident Evil multiplayer game will no longer be available. On March 3, you won’t be able to purchase or download the game anymore. To get it before then, fans need to buy Resident Evil Village first and then download the multiplayer game. If they do so, they can play it until June 29, but after that date, the game will be shut down completely. Those who already own the multiplayer game only have to worry about the upcoming shutdown on June 29.
As a dedicated Resident Evil fan, I wanted to clarify something that’s been causing a bit of confusion. Contrary to some rumors, it’s not Resident Evil Village that’s being removed from the shelves, but rather just the spin-off title, Resident Evil Re:Verse. So, fear not, Resident Evil Village is here to stay!
The reason for this misunderstanding might be due to the fact that Re:Verse relies on online elements and licenses, which could potentially expire or change. However, since there are no such concerns with Resident Evil Village as it’s an offline game, you can rest assured that it will remain available for all of us horror enthusiasts!
Capcom, creators of Resident Evil Re:Verse, expressed gratitude for the incredible response to their game since its launch in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Resident Evil series. However, as the series has reached a new milestone, they believe that Resident Evil Re:Verse has fulfilled its initial purpose of celebration exceptionally well and will be delisted and shut down.
