Late Toby Keith Honored by BFF Blake Shelton in Emotional Tribute

As a dedicated fan who grew up in Oklahoma, I can truly say that Toby Keith was not just a country music legend, but a hometown hero. His influence on my state and his fellow musicians is immeasurable.

Toby Keith may be gone, but he’s definitely not forgotten.

In an exclusive preview from TopMob News, NBC’s upcoming concert special titled “Toby Keith: American Icon” (to be aired on Aug 28), sees other renowned country music artists paying tribute to the late singer who passed away six months ago following a prolonged fight with cancer.

In the beginning, it was their mutual affection for their native state, Oklahoma, that ignited a strong bond of friendship between the seasoned apprentice, Blake Shelton, and someone else.

As an up-and-coming musician in my early days, Toby was the pioneer who offered me my first significant break within the industry. Reflecting on our shared Oklahoma roots, I believe, played a role in his decision to support me.

Shelton expresses that he admired Toby, learning much from his company. He mentions that once you were with Toby, you became a permanent member. There’s no one else quite like Toby Keith.

Meanwhile, Dolly Parton likens Keith’s long-lasting popularity to another country music singer.

“Did you realize? They often referred to Merle Haggard as the poet of the working class. The singer of ‘9 to 5’ points this out. I think Toby took up that nickname from Merle, representing the common man for future generations. Toby, remember that we will always cherish you.”

Reba McEntire additionally ensures her fans understand that Keith wasn’t merely an impressive performer on stage and in the recording studio, but his heart was vast, much like the state of Oklahoma.
