Lauren Laverne has revealed her decision to leave the BBC Radio 6 Breakfast Show following six years, however, she intends to rejoin the station in a new timeslot.
Last August, Laverne took a short break from hosting responsibilities due to receiving treatment for a cancer diagnosis. She recently announced her return, set to appear on a new weekday morning show starting soon.
The program is set to feature some well-known elements that gained prominence during her tenure at the station. These include Desert Island Disco, People’s Playlist, live performances, and an extensive mix of tunes from a diverse group of musicians.
During my chat on today’s Breakfast Show, I proudly shared some exciting news: Nick Grimshaw is here to stay! Indeed, he’ll be the consistent face guiding us through our early morning wake-ups from now on. What a fantastic addition to the team!
In her explanation, Laverne shared that she faced numerous challenges in the year 2024, causing her concern about her ability to come back to the cherished radio station.
It’s been an incredible pleasure (and lots of fun) to have hosted the Breakfast Show for six fantastic years. However, it’s now time for me to hand over the reins, and I’m looking forward to sleeping in a bit more.
In her recovery, she rediscovered the might of music, the importance of the company you keep, as well as the emotional comfort and happiness that radio broadcasts can offer.
As a film enthusiast, I’m absolutely thrilled to dive back into my passion and share it with you all, our amazing audience, daily.
While discussing his latest position, Grimshaw expressed gratitude to listeners for making him feel so welcomed during the time he stood in for Laverne.
He went on saying: “6 Music is a treasured spot, a radio station I hold dear. I’m genuinely privileged to have been invited to contribute, and I’m eagerly looking forward to keeping it stocked with fresh tunes from the most intriguing musicians worldwide.
Two new shows are set to debut in February, while Nemone takes over hosting duties for the Breakfast Show temporarily, starting from Monday, 13th January.
For now, during the day, Mary Anne Hobbs is going on a break called a sabbatical. She’ll be back to the station in the spring with a fresh, new program.
6 Music’s head, Samantha Moy, expressed great joy about Lauren’s recovery and readiness to rejoin 6 Music. Much like our audience, we’ve deeply missed her presence, and eagerly anticipate welcoming her voice back on the radio.
Regarding Grimshaw, she remarked: “Ever since the summer, Nick has been hosting our Breakfast program, and it’s evident that our listeners have welcomed him not just into their homes, but also into their hearts.
One of the best radio personalities from his era has been selected for the role, and we’re excited to announce that he will be the fresh face hosting the 6 Music Breakfast program starting soon.
As a fellow music enthusiast, I’d put it like this: “She called Hobbs the cream of the crop at 6 Music. We can’t wait for our wild stallion to gallop back among us later in the year.
