Law & Order season 24: Release date, cast and latest news

As a die-hard fan of Law & Order who’s seen every single episode since its inception, I couldn’t be more excited about the upcoming 24th season! The show has been an integral part of my weekly viewing routine for over two decades now, and it feels like coming home when I see that familiar theme song.

For over two decades now, the hit series “Law & Order” has consistently grown stronger, preparing to launch its impressive 24th season.

In a continuing narrative style reminiscent of Dick Wolf, we are presented with gripping tales set in the urban landscape of New York, where the strategies of both the NYPD and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office take center stage.

For Season 24, we’ve finally revealed its U.S. debut date and unveiled a thrilling preview of what’s in store! This includes a tantalizing glimpse at our new cast member, Maura Tierney (known for ER and The Affair), who will be joining the popular show as a lieutenant.

I eagerly anticipate the arrival of the new season, as it promises the comeback of many beloved characters. However, I can’t help but wonder about the fate of Lieutenant Kate Dixon, played by Camryn Manheim. It seems her departure was planned for the Season 23 finale, and now I’m intrigued to discover how her character will be bid adieu.

With that, read on for everything you need to know about Law & Order season 24.

Law & Order season 24 release date

The 24th season of Law & Order will premiere in the US on NBC on Thursday 3rd October at 8pm.

The upcoming premiere of Law & Order: SVU’s Season 26 will take place, and it will air every Thursday thereafter on a weekly basis.

Although the U.S. has set a release date for Season 24, there’s currently no announced air date for the show in the United Kingdom.

Although it hasn’t been confirmed exactly when, it seems likely that Law & Order season 24 will eventually air on 5USA. However, given that seasons 22 and 23 have not yet aired in the UK, we might need to wait a while before we can see it.

Law & Order season 24: Release date, cast and latest news

For season 24, the lineup has undergone some changes following Camryn Manheim’s exit from her role as Lieutenant Kate Dixon. Manheim had stepped into a larger role since season 21, having previously held smaller parts in the early seasons of the show, and her departure was already announced beforehand.

Upon her departure being made public, the series architect, Dick Wolf, expressed gratitude to Camryn for her exceptional contribution spanning three seasons that significantly contributed to the relaunch of Law & Order. He considers her as a true professional and wishes her only success and happiness in her upcoming endeavors.

Previously, Dixon held the position of commander at the Manhattan North Homicide Squad’s 27th Precinct. It’s not yet clear who will replace him, but it seems likely that Maura Tierney will step into his role. As of now, specific details about her character are kept secret, but we do know she is set to take on the new position of Lieutenant Jessica Brady in the show.

It has been revealed that actor Ryan Eggold from New Amsterdam is set to appear in the upcoming season of Law & Order, taking on a guest role as the sibling of Detective Vince Riley, who is portrayed by Reid Scott, known as Matt Riley.

Additionally, it’s been verified that Mariska Hargitay’s character, Olivia Benson from Law & Order: SVU, and Elizabeth Marvel’s character, Defense Attorney Rita Calhoun, are set to make appearances on the show as guest stars.

The full cast list for Law & Order season 24 is as follows:

  • Maura Tierney as Lieutenant Jessica Brady
  • Tony Goldwyn as District Attorney Nicholas Baxter
  • Hugh Dancy as Executive Assistant District Attorney Nolan Price
  • Odelya Halevi as Assistant District Attorney Samantha Maroun
  • Mehcad Brooks as Detective Jalen Shaw
  • Reid Scott as Detective Vincent Riley

What will Law & Order season 24 be about?

Law & Order season 24: Release date, cast and latest news

For over two decades now, Law & Order consistently presents its narratives by delving into the NYPD’s investigative angle and also the legal aspect, often set within a courtroom context, drawing support from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.

In this upcoming season, we’ll experience some changes as Tierney’s newly appointed second-in-command steps up to lead, following the departure of Dixon.

She appears straightforward with her words, suggesting potential friction may arise as she becomes more familiar with her team.

According to Rick Eid, showrunner for Tierney’s new series, he shared with NBC Insider that it’s somewhat nerve-wracking when an unfamiliar superior arrives, especially since the characters dislike bosses. To make matters more complex, Maura’s character isn’t exactly friendly or welcoming.

As the team adapts to their new supervisor, we might also look forward to delving deeper into Riley’s private life, since his brother will make an appearance in the upcoming season.

Additionally, there could be significant consequences for Baxter, who will have secured the election by Season 24. However, following the revelation of a troubling secret about his daughter in the previous season, we’ll need to observe how this might impact both his personal life and political career.

The premiere episode synopsis reads: “When a Brooklyn prosecutor is found slain in her apartment, Maroun takes drastic action to convince an eyewitness to come forward. Riley struggles to adjust to the new lieutenant in charge.”
