Law & Order: SVU Adds New Detective, Promotes Fan Fave to Series Regular

As a seasoned gamer of Law & Order: SVU, I can confidently say that the upcoming season is shaping up to be quite exciting! The return of Kevin Kane as Detective Terry Bruno and the introduction of Juliana Aid?n Martinez to the team are sure to bring fresh dynamics and storylines.

In approximately two months, Law & Order: SVU is set to return with two significant cast changes. Firstly, there’s a status update – Detective Terry Bruno will continue in her role, but this time with an upgrade: Kevin Kane has been promoted to series regular for season 26. Secondly, a fresh face will join the team. Griselda’s Juliana Aid?n Martinez will play a new detective on SVU, and viewers won’t have long to meet her, as the show kicks off on October 3rd.

Terry Is Sticking Around

Initially appearing in season 24 as a temporary character for a specific storyline, Kane’s role has expanded significantly to become a regular member on Benson’s team. Previously assigned to the Bronx Special Victims Unit, Bruno assisted Benson and Fin in capturing a serial rapist. Following Amanda Rollins’ departure, he was initially brought on as a temporary replacement, but since then, he has become an integral part of the team and one of Benson’s most trusted detectives.

Kane has significantly enriched the show since joining the regular lineup, and it’s delightful to witness his permanent role in the cast. Previously, he’s made appearances on Law & Order in various roles across different seasons, including seasons 9, 13, 17, and 20.

A New Detective

Martinez is set to join the show as a fresh detective, though her specific character hasn’t been revealed yet. Over the last few years, there have been numerous detectives working with Benson, and it’s hoped that Martinez will stay for an extended period. In the previous season, the main team comprised of Benson, Fin, Bruno, Toni Churlish, Joe Velasco, and Grace Mundy, but Mundy departed before the season ended. It remains unclear whether Churlish will reappear, in which case Martinez might take over her role on the team.

On October 3rd, SVU (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) is coming back after a wait and will air immediately following the reintroduction of the original Law & Order series on that day. NBC has unveiled its entire 2024 schedule, featuring shows like The Voice, The Irrational, Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and others. A notable change is that the third hour of the Thursday lineup will no longer feature Law & Order: Organized Crime, as it’s now available only on Peacock. As of yet, there’s no premiere date for Organized Crime, but we’ll keep you updated.
