Lazarus Releases Exciting Prison Fight Clip Ahead of April Release: Watch

The highly-anticipated premiere of Shinichiro Watanabe’s “Lazarus” is drawing near. To heighten the excitement for this upcoming series from the creative genius behind “Cowboy Bebop” and “Samurai Champloo”, a tantalizing sneak peek has been unveiled, showcasing an exhilarating action sequence from the new production. Alongside its captivating soundtracks and overall stylish ambiance, Watanabe demonstrates a knack for crafting exceptional action scenes, and “Lazarus” seems to be no exception.

In a new creation from Watanabe, we encounter yet another anime titled Lazarus. The story unfolds in a future that isn’t too far off, where a group of misfits are on a desperate mission to locate the elusive Dr. Skinner, a scientist who deceived the world into ingesting a “wonder drug” that would ultimately result in humanity’s demise within three years. The main team, consisting of Axel, Doug, Christine, Leland, and Eleina, have only 30 days to track down Dr. Skinner and develop an antidote to save the world’s population. However, there’s a catch—Dr. Skinner hasn’t been spotted in three years.

Lazarus Teases John Wick-Esque Action In Latest Trailer

In the latest sneak peek from Adult Swim, we get a glimpse of an intensely stylized brawl in prison, straight from the show Lazarus. Watanabe’s work has always been known for its down-to-earth action sequences, shying away from exaggerated powers like those seen in Super Saiyan characters. Now, Lazarus is pushing boundaries even further, as Chad Stahelski, the director of the John Wick films, has crafted the fight scenes for this series.

In this sequence, Axel escapes from prison by employing an assortment of martial arts techniques to subdue the guards. The action bears strong resemblance to John Wick, as Axel combines Spike Spiegel’s flamboyant spinning kicks with the judo and jiu-jitsu that John Wick is famous for. To top it off, a lively jazz soundtrack accompanies this high-octane spectacle, making Lazarus look promising as Watanabe’s latest success.

Lazarus is being developed by Sola Entertainment, featuring animation from MAPPA. Shinichiro Watanabe will direct each episode. Kamasi Washington, Floating Points, and Bonobo are involved in the music composition of this series. Additionally, renowned director Chad Stahelski is handling the action design and choreography. Washington contributes an original opening track titled “Vortex,” while The Boo Radleys perform the ending theme, “Lazarus.

What Should We Expect From Lazarus?

2025 is eagerly awaited by many for the release of the highly anticipated show, Lazarus. Although Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo are Shinichiro Watanabe’s most renowned creations, he is also known for masterpieces like Space Dandy, Macross Plus, Terror in Resonance, and Carole & Tuesday. For many, these earlier works served as their gateway into anime. Thus, the prospect of Watanabe returning with another science fiction series ignites immense excitement.

It seems that Lazarus is living up to fans’ expectations as a lively sci-fi tale. Axel appears reminiscent of Spike Spiegel reborn, while the rest of the ensemble characters each have distinctive traits. At this point, character development is sparse. However, given Watanabe’s track record, we can anticipate that every character will prove to be more complex than initially perceived. Lazarus premieres on Adult Swim on April 5th and will become available for streaming on Max the following day, April 6th.
