Based on recent news, it appears that a highly acclaimed game, potentially a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, is being developed. Few games manage to garner both widespread praise from critics and impressive sales figures. The number of titles meeting these criteria is relatively small, making them part of an exclusive group. Essentially, achieving success with the mainstream audience and critical acclaim can be challenging. Many top-selling games throughout history have not received universal approval from critics or dedicated gamers. In other words, only a few games – at most – from each generation manage to pull off this double feat.
Among the games that have received the highest critical acclaim, Red Dead Redemption 2 stands out with a Metacritic score of 97. Only three other games – Grand Theft Auto IV (2008), SoulCalibur (1999), and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998) – have surpassed this level of praise. As of now, Ocarina of Time has sold 13 million copies, while SoulCalibur has only managed to sell over a million. In contrast, GTA 4 has sold a staggering 25 million copies. However, none of these games can compare to the success of Red Dead Redemption 2, which has already sold an impressive 74 million copies and continues to do so.
It’s unlikely that Red Dead Redemption 2 takes a spot on the “Mount Rushmore” of video games, but it certainly holds a significant place in discussions. A recent report suggests that this game may make its debut on a new platform for the first time since 2019, when it was released on PC and Google Stadia. The rumor mill is buzzing that Red Dead Redemption 2 might be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2.
Based on reports from Gamereactor, a trustworthy source, and an independent report by Nintenduo, it appears that Rockstar Games may be preparing to launch a port of their game before the conclusion of this fiscal year, which is set to end no later than April 1st, 2026.
Without a doubt, any news about the Nintendo Switch 2 should be met with skepticism, just as we’ve approached all previous reports, rumors, or leaks. At present, neither Rockstar Games nor Nintendo has responded to this information, and it seems unlikely that they will. However, if anything changes, we’ll make sure to update the story accordingly.
