As someone who has been a dedicated Zelda fan since the days of Link’s Awakening and A Link to the Past, I can confidently say that The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is shaping up to be another incredible addition to this beloved series. While it may not quite reach the heights of masterpieces like Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom, its unique mechanics and fresh take on the franchise make it a must-play for any Zelda enthusiast.
The upcoming Nintendo Switch exclusive, titled “The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom“, is nearly here on September 26th, and it’s already making waves for Nintendo. Critics have begun sharing their reviews, and both Metacritic and Opencritic show positive scores for the Nintendo Switch game, even though it hasn’t quite reached the heights of earlier Zelda games like “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom” and “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild“.
In our personal assessment of the game Echoes of Wisdom on the Nintendo Switch, we awarded it a score of 4.5 out of 5. Translating this to the Metacritic and OpenCritic scoring system would equate to a 90 for the game, which is quite close to their current averages. At the moment, Metacritic and OpenCritic are both rating Echoes of Wisdom an 86 and an 85, respectively.
As a gamer, I’m super excited about this fresh take on The Legend of Zelda series! For the first time ever, instead of playing as Link, we can now step into Zelda’s shoes and embark on an entirely new adventure tailored to her character. What’s more, she’s been equipped with a brand-new “Echo” system, which she uses in place of Link’s traditional toolset since, after all, it’s not every day we get to play as Zelda!
The Echo system provides a delightful user experience, the environment is more engaging than the latest Zelda game, and there’s an abundance of content within this offering. This review concludes that we have a 2D Zelda game expertly designed for fans who were initially introduced to the series with Breath of the Wild.
For fans of The Legend of Zelda, one advantage is that although some of the Echoes of Wisdom ratings lean towards the lower side, thereby affecting the average, these scores don’t necessarily mean anything negative. In fact, the lowest Metacritic scores were two 60s, indicating that the game was not crucial but rather optional in the overall Legend of Zelda series. However, most reviews commended its unique style and innovative mechanics.
It might not be entirely fair to draw parallels between this game and “Breath of the Wild” and “Tears of the Kingdom,” as they are quite distinct. A more fitting comparison could be “Link’s Awakening,” which received an 87 on Metacritic, so if you appreciated that title, you might also enjoy “Echoes of Wisdom.
