Legendary Rock Band Aerosmith Officially Retires

As a lifelong fan who grew up with Aerosmith’s iconic tunes blasting through my speakers, it feels like losing a dear friend. I remember singing along to “Sweet Emotion” at the top of my lungs during high school parties, and dancing to “Dream On” at college frat events. Their music has been the soundtrack of my life, punctuating moments of joy, heartbreak, triumph, and everything in between.

Legendary Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Famers Aerosmith have decided to end their musical journey. After announcing a hiatus earlier this year due to lead singer Steven Tyler’s health issues, including a fractured larynx and damaged vocal cords, they had planned to return in 2023. However, today, the band shared on Instagram that despite their hopes for a quick recovery, Tyler isn’t progressing as anticipated, making it impossible to deliver the quality of show their fans deserve. Hence, Aerosmith has decided to retire.

“It has been the honor of our lives to have our music become part of yours,” Aerosmith said in part, in a statement you can see below. “A final thank you to you – the best fans on planet Earth. Play our music loud, now and always. Dream On. You’ve made our dreams come true.”

As a devoted gamer diving into the latest music news, I’ve got some bittersweet info for fellow fans. The iconic band that’s been rocking our world for years has hinted at stepping off the touring stage. Now, whether this implies they’re hanging up their microphones forever or maybe just taking a break is uncertain. But given it’s been eight years since their last studio album, “Music From Another Dimension!”, it seems like we might be saying goodbye for now. Still, let’s keep our fingers crossed for future surprises from this legendary band!

The group originally came together back in 1970, and their debut album, titled after themselves, dropped in 1973. The “Peace Out” tour was organized to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this initial record. Ticket holders for concerts that were postponed and ultimately cancelled can request a refund at the original point of purchase.

Over several decades, Aerosmith, known as America’s premier rock ‘n’ roll band, accumulated four Grammy Awards, a Soul Train Award for Best Rap Single (shared with Run-DMC on “Walk This Way”), and multiple MTV Video Music Awards. They were adored by fans, satirized by “Weird” Al Yankovic, and their influence extended to the creation of the Aerosmith Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, a Disney attraction that operated from 1999 to 2019 before being replaced by Avengers Assemble: Flight Force. The band also solidified their status as pop culture icons when they tied their song “I Don’t Want To Miss a Thing” with the movie Armageddon, in which Liv Tyler, Tyler’s daughter, starred.

The band has taken farewell tours before; they concluded their “Aero-Vederci Baby! Tour” in 2018, which gave off a strong farewell vibe, but was followed shortly by the “Deuces are Wild” tour that spanned from 2019 to 2022, with a pause due to COVID. However, this time around, after over five decades together, the prospect of ending feels more genuine. Moreover, it appears that Tyler’s injuries may be more severe than initially anticipated, leading many to believe that the band might truly have ended their touring career.
