As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for both LEGO games and post-apocalyptic settings, I must say that LEGO Horizon Adventures has managed to tickle my fancy in a way few crossovers have. Coming from someone who’s spent countless hours looting, shooting, and crafting in the original Horizon Zero Dawn, seeing this iconic universe transformed into LEGO bricks was an unexpected delight.
The concept of a LEGO version of the Horizon universe might have initially seemed odd when it was unveiled, but Sony’s strategy to widen the franchise’s fanbase by not only venturing onto new platforms such as the Switch, but also catering to a younger audience, does hold merit. Now, we’re witnessing this plan unfold with LEGO Horizon Adventures, which is available now. Take a look at its launch trailer below.
LEGO Horizon Adventures, created by Studio Gobo and Guerrilla Games, is a playful spin on the original Horizon Zero Dawn (released in 2017). The game’s storyline has been condensed and reimagined for a more joyful adventure. In terms of gameplay, it takes a streamlined approach, focusing on easy-to-understand action mechanics that unfold within linear levels. However, don’t be fooled, you’ll still encounter diverse mechanical creatures in your battles set against the backdrop of richly overgrown post-apocalyptic landscapes.
In our assessment of the game, we gave it an 8 out of 10, noting that “LEGO Horizon Adventures” effectively simplifies and summarizes “Horizon Zero Dawn” for a younger demographic, offering an enjoyable, endearing, and easy-to-grasp experience within a captivating post-apocalyptic setting.
