2025 looks promising for LEGO enthusiasts, with a multitude of fresh sets unveiled for March and additional releases showcased at NY Toy Fair 2025, themed around Bluey and Marvel. But if you’re the type of LEGO fan who eagerly snapped up The Endurance set during the holiday season, the launch of the LEGO Ideas River Steamboat Set #21356 (affectionately nicknamed “Project Toot”) might be more your style.
LEGO has introduced their inaugural steamboat set at the New York Toy Fair, which was designed by a fan through the LEGO Ideas program. This extensive 4,090-piece model is certain to provide a challenging build experience that results in an accurate representation of a traditional river steamboat. However, there are some unexpected elements to this watercraft. It has been renovated for leisurely entertainment tours, boasting a steam engine museum. Key features include a well-detailed pilothouse, crew quarters, bathroom on the Texas deck, a music stage and restaurant on the main deck, and a kitchen on the boiler deck.
Similar to my cherished Endurance model (which I’m fond of), this steamboat will boast practical components such as a working paddle linked to a ‘steam’ engine, a rudder controlled by the ship’s wheel, and detachable decks for exploring its interior spaces. For a more detailed view, check out the gallery below, followed by answers to your curiosity-provoking questions like: when will it be available, where can I purchase it, how much does it cost, and what additional items come free with this set?
Starting on April 6th/7th at 9pm PT / 12am ET, LEGO Insiders will have early access to the LEGO Ideas River Steamboat set exclusively at the LEGO shop. This extraordinary set will be available to all customers from April 10th. Priced at $329.99, it’s a must-have for any LEGO enthusiast!
As an added bonus, LEGO Insiders will receive a free Gift with Purchase: The LEGO Amelia Ticket Booth from April 7th to April 13th (while supplies last). Here’s the official description of this charming little set:
The intricate LEGO Amelia Ticket Booth (5009157) construction toy offers a ticket window, tower, jetty, and flag. It boasts decorative elements like ‘TICKET’ and ‘AMELIA’ signs with timetable information. Inside, you’ll find a riverboat museum complete with a miniature riverboat model and a microfigure. Ideal for both building and play, this 152-piece LEGO Ticket Booth construction set makes an engaging gift for children aged ten and above.
The latest LEGO set, which is now available, was conceptualized by Aaron Hall, an enthusiast of LEGO from Illinois, USA. He developed this creation through the LEGO Ideas initiative. In discussing his project, Aaron shared: “My passion for LEGO boats ignited with the Black Seas Barracuda set (#6285), enamored by its elaborate mast and sail rigging. Being raised near the Mississippi River, my curiosity about paddle boats grew, eventually leading me to design this steamboat model. To perfect the design, I researched pictures to embody the spirit of steamboats and carefully selected LEGO components to realize my idea. Determined to create a scale suitable for minifigures and pay homage to classic LEGO pirate ships through modular boat hull bases, my dedication was unwavering.
