Lies of P 2 May Feature Better Multiplayer Than Elden Ring

As a seasoned gamer who’s survived countless boss fights and dark, twisted worlds, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and trepidation about the multiplayer announcement for Lies of P 2. Having played my fair share of Soulslikes and seen the highs and lows of their multiplayer offerings, I’m eager to see how Round8 will navigate this new territory.

In 2023, the Bloodborne-inspired action RPG left fans amazed, and now, it appears that the sequel is set to make a major leap forward. Job postings hint that Neowiz is searching for game designers with expertise in creating multiplayer games, which could mean that Lies of P 2 may incorporate this feature. Furthermore, the job posts suggest that dungeon instances might also play a role in the sequel. This shift towards multiplayer and dungeons marks a significant departure from the original game, as it was developed by Round8 without any multiplayer features—a rarity even under its own publisher. The developers acknowledged this lack of multiplayer during the development process.

In 2023, publishing director Wonmo Kim shared that Neowiz has been successfully developing and managing live service games for quite some time. However, their experience in creating single-player console games is still relatively new. With the project Lies of P, the aim was to demonstrate Neowiz’s potential as a publisher with a studio capable of producing exceptional single-player console games.

In games belonging to this genre, player-versus-player (PvP) combat is a common feature. However, what’s characteristic about FromSoftware’s games, like Dark Souls, is the inclusion of Dark Souls-style invasions. Players are well aware of what awaits them when they dive into these games. Now, let me tell you something different: instanced dungeons. This would be quite a shift from the norm. Although we can’t predict anything beyond this mention, it’s not hard to visualize a system similar to Bloodborne’s Chalice Dungeons. If implemented, this feature would enable players to join forces and explore dungeons teeming with optional bosses and additional content. This could bring much-needed vitality to the multiplayer landscape of Soulslike games.

As a thrilled fan, I can’t help but share my excitement following the unveiling of Elden Ring: Nightreign at the 2024 Game Awards! This upcoming multiplayer game promises an exhilarating experience, inviting up to three players to join an alternate version of The Lands Between’s Limgrave. Together, we’ll take on swarms of common enemies, a variety of minibosses, and a total of eight challenging bosses.

As a passionate fan, I can only express my hope that “Lies of P” takes note from its predecessors and addresses the network issues that have traditionally hindered the multiplayer experience in this genre. Instead of making multiplayer seem like an afterthought or secondary option, it would truly delight fans if Round8 focuses on creating a flawless, cohesive experience that mirrors the fun and responsiveness of the single-player mode.
