Lies of P Game Director Feels Honored by Comparisons With Bloodborne

To any enthusiast of games reminiscent of the Souls series, it’s no wonder that Neowiz’s action RPG, Lies of P, has been likened to FromSoftware’s Bloodborne by fans. In an interview with VGC, game director Jiwon Choi expressed gratitude for the comparison between the two games.

Initially, Choi expressed that it’s a privilege for them since they hold these games in high regard. Furthermore, such comparisons inspire them as the anticipation from their fans increases due to their admiration for those esteemed games.

As a fan, I can’t help but draw parallels between “Lies of P” and “Bloodborne,” primarily due to their shared gameplay aspects and striking visual similarities. However, it’s essential to acknowledge that while “Bloodborne” weaves tales of gothic and cosmic horror, populated by werewolves and Lovecraftian monstrosities, “Lies of P” delves into a chilling atmosphere of unease, largely through the unsettling presence of its non-human adversaries that play upon the uncanny valley effect.

Regarding the admiration Choi holds for FromSoftware’s creations, including the upcoming game “Elden Ring: Nightreign,” he previously mentioned it. Neowiz as a studio is hesitant to forecast the direction in which the “Souls”-like genre will develop in the future. However, Choi hinted at possible future collaborations by stating, “As for our future projects, we are always open to exploring new possibilities.

Choi remarked, “I found [Nightreign] incredibly invigorating and innovative.” This made him feel that they are skilled developers who consistently challenge limits, unleash their creativity, and demonstrate this in their work. Consequently, this inspired him to make the [Overture] experience as top-notch as possible.

At present, Neowiz is developing an addition for the game titled “Lies of P,” called “Overture.” This addition will introduce fresh content, such as new foes to confront. Regarding “Overture,” Choi mentioned that this expansion marks the accomplishment of Neowiz’s objective to craft a superior single-player gaming experience.

As a devoted gamer, I can tell you that the core idea behind this game’s development was to create an exceptional, premium action experience solely for players like us. We’ve learned a great deal from the initial release and have strived to incorporate those lessons into this expansion. Essentially, this addition is the culmination of our efforts to enhance the original gameplay.

As a seasoned gamer, I’m excitedly looking forward to diving into the world of Lies of P: Overture. Choi estimates that this expansion could take me around 15 to 20 hours to complete, but he cautions that this is for those already familiar with the genre. Newcomers might find it takes them longer to wrap up the expansion due to the learning curve. Still, Neowiz is working hard to make sure Overture is accessible and enjoyable for both gaming veterans and newbies alike!
