Life Hasn’t Been Kind

Shakira‘s past doesn’t lie.

Three years since their announced separation after eleven years together, the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer attended the 2025 Grammy Awards and openly discussed her challenges throughout, even though she’s managed to make the most of her journey (For more celebrities at the Grammys, check it out here).

During the Live From TopMob: Grammys on Feb. 2, Shakira shared with Zuri Hall that she has grown significantly over time. She’s absorbed many valuable lessons throughout her life, and although life hasn’t always been easy, it’s served as a great educator for her.

Despite navigating a challenging phase in my life, which came after the high-profile separation with Gerard in June 2022, I’ve never forgotten the empowered woman I presented to the world through my 2009 album, “She Wolf.” This resilient spirit continues to guide me.

As the 48-year-old put it, “The she wolf is still here.”

On the very day she was honored with a Grammy, coincidentally her birthday, she has much to be thankful for despite life’s hardships. Indeed, she’s celebrating her 48th birthday amidst the most prestigious musical event of the year.

Shakira expressed her belief, saying, ‘I consider this a gift for me.’ Five years ago, I was at the Super Bowl too, and it happened to be on my birthday. It seems like these significant events keep occurring on my birthday. Perhaps it’s a special, heavenly gift.

Instead of just strolling down the red carpet, Shakira—mother to Milan (10) and Sasha (8), both with Gerard—is poised to perform at the event, joining other artists like Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, Billie Eilish, and FINNEAS on stage.

She enthusiastically shared that she’s had wonderful moments performing here before, and her previous performance was particularly memorable. She hopes that tonight’s show will also become one of those special performances that she’ll always recall fondly.
